I don't think people are saying that they are offended really. I think they are just pointing out what they felt was something a bit stereotypical.

I don't see why this is an issue. Nothing Brother Warth did was negatively stereotypical. Now, Jaime talking like a cholo? That's a horse of a different color.

Never said I was offended, I just found it a bit presumptuous to give an alien character who looks like an elephant an accent that was Indian.

I'd think if anything was presumptuous, it would be making a character that was so obviously inspired by Ganesh in the first place. Once you have such a character, I would think giving him an Indian accent is probably the MOST sensible thing to do. If somebody isn't bothered by his resemblance to a Hindu deity, they are unlikely to be bothered by him sounding like he's from India. Surely you'd be MORE likely to offend Hindus if Ganesh was given, say, a Brooklyn accent?

Not that I have any problem with it at all. But I'm not Hindu, so I've no idea how a Hindu would react to the use of imagery from their religion in a SF Cartoon.

Good point. I remember thinking how close Warth was to Ganesh when he came out. However, I was more annoyed with the improbability of a far-off alien race looking so close to a mix of elephant and homo-sapien. We already had a squirrel, a dog, and a fly. Wasn't that enough?

To be clear, I don't think it's "an issue" (any more than it's an issue I didn't like his look in the show) nor was I personally offended. I was just bringing up that it surprised me they did it. I'd be (admittedly more) surprised if they had full frontal nudity in the next episode, but I probably wouldn't be personally offended.

That said, I disagree that you're only allowed to be offended if you are the target. I'm offended when people hostilely say the "n word." I'm offended as a human being even though I'm as white as a ghost. Again, I don't think that applies here, but I have to disagree that we can't be offended by stereotypes or racism aimed at other groups.

Everyone is so fucking over sensitive. Grow a pair and grow the fuck up. Not everything in the world is offensive quit looking for it.

So what if somebody you don't know or love wants to be offensive, they mean absolutely nothing to you so quit giving them what they want.

Fucking pansies.

i enjoy the chilling voice of his and felt it was the same tone as mark strong's performance
I imagine that Perlamn will be using his Slade voice for Sinestro, which I think will sound awesome!

Seems to me that you sound a lot more "over sensitive" in this post than anybody else here has about Warth. Just sayin'...

In truth the ring translator should sound the same for everybody. A translator would not repeat things back to you with an accent. Hal should probably be hering every alien language in the same voice and the same accent.

That would be what realisim would dictate.

However since realsim has no place in fantasy. I would explain it off as since the ring runs off of the imagination, people sound like Hal assumes they should sound. Much like we assign voices to characters in books.

Which is probably why books bore me so much, all I hear is monotone. Even when they are screaming in absolute agony or begging for their life.

If someone feels the need to "get bent out of shape over trivial little crap" then they need to get their head examined because their fucked up in the head.
