Is the Green Lantern Corps movie actually going to happen?

What do you think? I went on Geoff Johns' website and it says the movie is now "In Development." I wonder if this means his script has been approved by WB and it's actually being developed, unlike his script for "The Batman" that was thrown in the trash?



What a great "promotion" for him! He gets to have a lot of free time to write scripts WB will just shoot down.

Bunch of cynics. (1) I think Aquaman is going to do fine. (2) GLC will be made some day. Probably not when they first announced, but some day. There's too much potential in the property to forever shelf especially after GotG and the resurgence of SW.

We'll be lucky if he doesn't rework the script so that it's a buddy cop movie with Baz and Cruz. The guy loves to put his own sh#t over. If Johns was a wrestler he's the guy who would get the book and put the strap on himself.

This leads me to believe that DC is still just kicking around ideas at this point rather than having a definite plan. If a GLC movie was really going to hit theaters next year, the film would already have some concrete information attached to it.

You make a good point. The clock is ticking to the release date WB set for themselves. With that window of time getting smaller and smaller, if that date IS going to happen we should start hearing things in the next few months. At least a solid green light.

That's not an announcement? The author seems to be referencing this deadline article, which is a Q&A with Morrison and only references the movie as an introduction:

The latest word is that producer-writer Geoff Johns is working on a script that will reinvent Green Lantern, but the details are scant. If Johns is looking to the publishing history for inspiration there’s plenty of material — this year marks the 60th anniversary of the deep-space hero’s debut so there’s plenty of of mythology to chose from. But the most screen-ready version of the Emerald Crusader may actually be the very latest one.

You can throw that date out, it's from 2014 and was under the assumption that the Snyder-verse would be a success. Hell it was even before Johns was promoted to President in 2016.

If a Green Lantern Corps film happens, unfortunately, I think there is a decent chance the script will be written by Johns. We pretty much already know what to expect out of him where Green Lantern is concerned. I think he even said as much in an interview. Something like "Yeah, I'm writing a script for GLC, and if you liked my Green Lantern run in comics, then you know what to expect."

Jeeze, I wonder when they will start filming Geoff's script that he was "promoted" away from being DC CCO and WB Entertainment CEO to write. Surely soon, if it's going to meet its 2020 date!
