Sad news! I actually like DCD. Sure there is room for improvments but Sideshow and Mattel are not perfect either. Sideshow is not retailer friendly either. Where DCD offers retailers a nicer discount on products. I will probably still get any Sideshow Green Lantern and Harley Quinn but that would probably be about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see it mention that they'd be making 7" figures, just busts, statues, art prints, and 12" figs. Is everyone assuming that DCD is just going to farm the 6-7" scale figs out to Mattel?

I'm sure Sideshow will make better 12" figs than DCD, though at a higher price, but Mattel's 7" figs don't really compare to DCD for me. I'd rather have story/artist specific figures with better sculpts and less articulation than the cookie-cutter DCUC musclebound stuff. Say what you will about DCD, but their figs are beautiful and mange to look like specific artists when the situation calls for it.

As for Mattel, I'd like to see them expand their Movie Masters line to include 6" figs of past DC movies/TV shows as well - Chris Reeve Superman, Michael Keaton Batman, Lynda Carter Wonder Woman, John Wesley Shipp Flash, plus villains, of course. How cool would it be to have a Jack Nicholson Joker that actually looked like Nicholson? Or a Mark Hamill Trickster? Awesome.

Yes and no. DCD's average pricepoint was about $99 as they were coming an end with those. Sideshow's average pricepoint is about $100, with figures coming in slightly higher and slightly lower depending on the figure. A lot of people lump them in with Hot Toys because the openly distribute them but you have to look at prices in their Star Wars or GI Joe line to really get a gauge. Even the DCD 1:4 scale which are around $300 are the average for standard size characters from SSC in that format.

The big difference for us will be that Sideshow has exclusives which means if you want the little added bonus (sometimes they are awesome and other times passable) you'll have to pay full retail prices from them which in CA for me means that I have to pay taxes on top of shipping but also that retailers for DCD products have discounted as low as 30% whereas Sideshow only allows for a 10% max.

So it'll cost more for those who are used to getting their DCD at a nice savings but the MSRPs will probably be about the same.

I know Sideshow does excellent work; especially on their Premium Format Statues. I bought the Ms. Marvel one and her costume is real fabric. And the detailing is awesome.

Yeah so that'll hurt for buyers.

The Ms. Marvel piece is fantastic, I think the standard head is much better than the Ex though:
