I think it's meant to be.

I don't know if it was quite a turn on but I remember at least really liking that scene in Descent where the main character pops out of the blood pit.

Since they have absolutely no logical reason to adhere to the Guardians' Sector designations for member selection, I'd have to say the answer is "Sure, why not? As long as they are pissed off enough."
