Default JL Unlimited: J. Stewart & Hawkgirl question

My wife got me the JL Unlimited Season 2 DVDs and I've been catching up. Just wondering if the whole love affair between John Stewart and Hawkgirl was also part of the comics or was it just in the cartoons.

It always seemed like an odd choice anyways.

I always questioned the use of Hawkgirl on the show

I understand they needed another woman to round out the team but Im shocked they didn't go with Zatanna or someone who brings something else to the table, with all respect to Shayera and her fans she's literally just a lesser Wonder Woman skill set wise.

But as I've said before, That's Bruce Timm's major flaw. He puts relationships together that shouldn't happen he hinted at a Bruce Wayne Barabara Gordon hook-up in The New Batman Adventures and Batman beyond and when fans call him on it and say "but that's wrong!" Timm goes "Well yeah. we know it's wrong that's why we did it."

I actually enjoyed the Hawkgirl/John relationship. I also wish they would have pursued the Bruce/Diana relationship a bit more as well.

Whenever I think of the Bruce/Diana relationship, I think of that Futurama episode with the giant Amazonian women and death by snoo snoo.

DC Animated Universe has a different timeline and plot settings that sometimes confuses me when things happen in the cartoon occurred differently from the comics. But in does provided interest in the show. I also thought that John and Sheyera had some sort of short history in the comics that led to their relationship in the cartoon.

I dug the coupling of GL and Hawkgirl in the series. Unlike Bats and Wondy, John and Shayera were both fairly normal space-faring representatives of alien species. It was a similar enough relationship to what he struck w/ fellow GL Katma Tui in the books, something that helped set Stewart apart from Jordan and Gardner's classic relations with Carol and Tora. I didn't like how their relationship just fizzled in the end along w/ a silly revelation about the Shadow Thief.

I wouldn't have minded if John got with Hawkwoman in the comic books since Katar was absent and the Earthbound Hawkman and Hawkgirl were in play. The animated series did wonders for their recognition but TPTB couldn't / wouldn't capitalize on that.

I haven't them in a while but the Batman Beyond Unlimited comic series does occasionally show expanded stuff. Last time I read it showed what happened to Hawkman, Vixen, how Shayera & John got back together, and the Shadow Theif. It was a flashback from the child of John & Shayera about how they ultimately ended up together for good and retired from the hero business (those lousy quitters).

Isn't their child called War Hawk or something on Batman Beyond?
