  • Big Green Lantern synopsis project

I'm going to read my collection of Green Lantern comics from 1990-2004 and write a short synopsis for each issue to get an overall picture of the series. If any of you feel like helping/joining you can just read any issue of the ones I'm posting below and click on the link to write in my Google drive document or just write it as a comment.

    List

    GL: EMERALD DAWN 1-6

    GL: EMERALD DAWN II 1-6

    GL 1 Down to Earth
A seemingly old Hal Jordan walks in the desert. He checks in with the Justice League where everyone wants him to join except for Guy. He decided not to join. We cut to John who wrestles with his own thoughts on being a lantern.
We meet Hal again thinking back when he was younger and helped a mining community. He goes back to see a woman named Rose. She doesn’t recognize him when he seeks work on her farm. Cut to John who thinks back when he destroyed a planet and goes to OA where he finds a dead alien. Everything seems to be going great for Hal with Rose and her kid and then Guy shows up. They get in an argument and Rose sees Hal using his ring and tells him to leave.

Why not start in the 60s?

I just felt like starting here, mostly because I think these are more fun to read.

It's amazing how much stuff the Green Lanterns were put through during the relatively short time they did not have their own series anymore. I think that period from 1988-1990 before the relaunch of the third volume was terrible. Lots of very strange, very questionable decisions were made.

The early Gerard Jones stuff is really great, though. I like his takes on all the characters, and the new character he made, Rose Hardin, is really good. He made great use of her throughout his time writing Green Lantern books. Thinking back on it, the Gerard Jones period of Green Lantern is my second favorite behind the Len Wein/Steven Englehart stuff in the mid '80s. Fun times! They don't make Green Lantern remotely like that anymore, unfortunately (to me).
ZATSWAN.COM Zatswan: Multiversal Guardian, the brand new cosmic comic book, now available!
