I'm wondering how they even got that far - assuming they're the first generation travel machine, they'd still take their energy from [static] electrified floors - They'd be immobile on concrete paving slabs.

Just saw Day of the Daleks for the first time. Not a bad episode. Introduces time travel to the Daleks' arsenal and is one of the few early stories where time travel itself is a major part of the story (not just the means of starting it).

Default Doctor Who Causes Cancer

Further sad news - Mary Tamm, the first actress to play Time Lady Romana died in hospital yesterday

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/pe...internalSearch

She is the fourth 'companion' to die from cancer in the 18 months after Nicholas Courtney (feb 2011), Elisabeth Sladen (April 2011) and Caroline John (June 2012)

That is very sad to hear. I just watched her first episode the other day. I have always hopped that they would bring Romona back. I know it wouldn't have been her but all the same.

From the looks of this review Season 33 (or 11.3 if you like neat categories; or 7 if you've never heard of Paul McGann et al) is taking the Doctor back to 'Monster of the week' episodes, with no overarching plot which seemed to be quite divisive amongst fans and casual viewers alike.

I'm rather ambivolent about the news, I quite like the discussion and apprehension that comes with clues dropped into an episode and character expansion from one episode to the next - but then I liked 9.1 because it didn't need to waste time in an episode (or a whole episode in the case of Curse of the Black Spot) for something that crops up in the finalé (and I'd argue that the 10 seconds of pirates in the finalé is not worth sitting through Black Spot).
9.1 managed to drop clues to the Daleks without getting in the way (or even being noticed)

There is a lot of variation in the quality of the standalone stuff too: Fear Her, Love and Monsters, School Reunion (Anthony Head could have been an amazing villain) and the recent Christmas Special were pretty poor (and pretty damn unforgivable given one of those episodes had us eposed to the horror of Peter Kay in a thong *shudder*) but there have some absolute gems like The Doctor's Wife, The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink.

Like I said - 'ambivolent'.
Whatever, I look forward to the new season, except for the dinosaur episode.

Not ambivalent in the least. I would love, love, love episodes that had no reference to the whole season or some super secret hidden plan to destroy all reality. And while you cited some good examples of bad standalones there are also a lot of episodes that would have been just as good (or, imho, better) without a single connecting reference; like say the Van Gogh episode.

Well, I did enjoy the old story arcs, but as soon as Moffat came in, the arcs never ended, I mean, both 11.1 and 11.2 were the same arc, I hated that. I liked it when each series was its own arc instead of the entire thing being the same. Alot of things these days have changed from having a seperate issue each episode to having series long arcs (supernatural, for example). Now I've heard that there will be no more arcs, I'm actully pleased, Moffat could clearly not do arcs well. Plus this means we're back to clasic dr who, something I've been looking foward to. I just hope we don't go back to serials though.

Anyway, looking foward to season 33! Oh, BTW, here's the list of episodes for season 33 so far:

Asylum of the Daleks
Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
A Town Called Mercy
The Power Of Three
The Angels Take Manhattan
Christmas Special
Story G
Story H
Story I
The Crimson Horror (provisional title)
Story K
Phantoms of the Hex OR The Hider in the House
Story M
Story N

That's pretty much the rumour that's been going around since he left - he's said pretty much the same thing in interviews closer to the time of his leaving, only, as the article states, more diplomatically (i.e. no swearing)
But it was made clear that he wasn't happy about the workload/pressure and promotional duties.

I have to say that the third video is one of the greatest I've ever seen. So many times anymore they never show the older Doctors with the newer. I loved it. That's the way it should be.
