Earl Bernhardt, the co-founder of the Tropical Isle bar and co-inventor of the world famous "Hand Grenade" beverage died Thursday. He was 80.

Bernhardt and his business partner Pam Fortner opened Bourbon Street's Tropical Isle in December of 1984 and made a name selling their invention: the "New Orleans Hand Grenade," a strong alcoholic beverage served in a green, grenade-shaped container that has long been one of the city's most popular drinks.

Sad to hear that
I love The Ghost And Mr Chicken. Not only do I have the dvd, but I drove to boston once to see it on a 35mm print for a Don Knotts double feature at an old theater. Great little flick.

He was terrifically frightening as a mad husband in Altman's Images. He actually worked with Altman a few times (one of his many recurring character actors), and got his first major role in MASH.

Oh yeah, I loved that vampire movie. He was also the Arkham doctor in Batman Forever, and had countless voice acting roles.
