Default Captain Marvel: The Official Thread (Previews, Reviews, Discussion) SPOILERS

So the first issue of Carol Danvers's latest ongoing hit stands today.

Here's my review and here's metallicorps' review.

Needless to say, both of us are looking forward to more.

The rest of the issue, especially Cap's talk with Carol, was excellent.
The "Moon powers," line was hilarious. Having a scene that could be both humorous while maintaining a sense of dynamic action, the scene with Absorbing Man, coupled with the more emotional scenes later on between Cap/Carol and Helen/Carol show that DeConnick looks to bringing a create balance to the book, so that there's a little something for everyone to enjoy.

I want to read this(I love the concept of Absorbing Man so seeing that he's in there is a bonus), but I was not a fan of that art in the preview. I'll keep my eye on reviews to see if it maintains the high praise.

Issue 2 hit stands today, and so....

I didn't imagine a time travel story. What's more, not only is she far enough back that the Avengers can't help her, but she's on a part of the planet where she's probably almost totally unfamiliar.

When Carol met the Banshees, I saw the obvious parallels to Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos teaming up with Captain America (if only in the Cap film; never was a Cap comic reader).

However, given the Prowlers' presence, I'm getting the feeling that Carol might actually be on a parallel Earth rather than simply in the past. It's entirely possible that I'm wrong, and that the Banshees will either be wiped out before she's sent home, or sworn to secrecy by the brass; either way will keep the alien presence under wraps and thereby not ruffle continuity too much.

Really enjoyed issue 2, Soy's art seemed to be clearer here than the last issue. I love Captain Marvels attitude.

So issue 4 came out (surprised me, 'cause I thought we were only to 3), and I have to say, things are only getting stranger.

Peru? Holy crap.
Helen Cobb? Holy fucking shit.

Well, the first arc's over with.

Cobb transforming was yet another surprising twist, but admittedly I should have seen it coming, since it was right there. The "flashback" makes me want to read the old issues of when Carol was first affected by the Psyche-Magnitron (that's gotta be in a trade I can get, somewhere).

Look forward to the trade, which should be out in the next month or two.
