Default Figure/Toy Discussion Thread

Figured it would be cool to have a general action figure/toy discussion/review thread. This might give a fellow collector the nudge to push to purchase or to leave on the shelf. Post some photos, some thoughts, enjoy!

DC Universe Classics Wave 9 Black Adam
This figure is pretty damn good, the best of the four Marvel Family figures offered (Captain Marvel, two Mary Marvel variants). I have the other three but this is the one that stands out the best. Good sculpt, pretty accurate to most artists depictions. The one flaw is lack of accessories, which not many can be included with his character, but he does have his necklace/pendant accessory.

DC Universe Classics Wave 2 Black Manta
I haven't seen the new Two Pack repaint rerelease of him, but I know he is blue, where this one is black. I believe this one to be superior due to the fact it's color is true to the character's name. Good head sculpt, nothing too fantastic about the body buck, and the accessories are quite nice.

DC Universe Classics Wave 12 Dr. Mid-Nite
I'm fond of the JSA, and this figure was a definite purchase for me. The owl fits right on his arm, the sculpt is wonderful, the colors are great. A lot of people complained about the paint apps being off on their figure, but mine is spot on. Too bad they didn't do the variant.

DC Universe Classics Wave 3 Deathstroke the Terminator
Old School will like this one! This is in my top 5 of this particular line. Awesome accessories, spot on accuracy and just an over all great figure. I don't have the variant mask off version, but it isn't needed when you have this figure.

DC Universe Classics Wave 9 Mantis (robot/Super Powers)
I was really surprised how much I would like this figure. So far I'm only completed a few waves of the DCUC line (6, 9, 11, 12) and I only got this one to complete the line and it was my third favorite figure from this wave. The scuplt is awesome, and is rare from Mattel because it doesn't have any other figures it can work well into. Great figure.

DC Universe Classics Wave 11 The Question (winner: Fan's Choice Poll)
Another sleeper favorite of mine was The Question. Awesomely simple, but great none-the-less. No accessories other than the CnC piece, but over all a great purchase- it sparked an interest (albeit only slightly) in the character for me.

DC Universe Classics Wave 11 Steppenwolf (Super Powers)
Again another figure I only bought to complete a wave was the Super Powers Steppenwolf figure. Amazingly detailed and comes with great accessories. I own both versions but this version is terrific. Just wish I owned some Parademons!

Marvel Legends (Hasbro) Ultimate WWII Captain America
Last and certainly not least for this post is Ultimate WWII Captain America, my favorite character and figure I own. From my understanding the Marvel Select version is better, but I'm having a difficult time tracking that one down. This figure stays amazingly true to Hitch's artwork and captures Ultimates: National Security art very well. This is the #1 spot figure for me.

More reviews to come, I encourage you to post your own!

The Ultimate World War II Capt America is awesome. If I was younger I would have probably would be buying one. I really don't have any space to display most of the toys/figures I bought years ago. For now, I'm pretty satisfied just browsing at figures.

Thumbs up DC Direct Justice Society of America Series 2

Hourman
Nicely done version, very good paint and sculpt, mini hourglass is cool, my favorite of this series.

Stargirl
Also nicely done, if I had to pick one thing to fault her arms seem a little too thin.

Cyclone
Ok this one is the love/hate one of the group. While she looks a little weird and seems to be an odd pick she actual is a interesting figure. Her outfit is better then the original prototype which had it molded as part of the figure. On the regular figure it is actual more than one piece, the top part is one, the lower part is another (the green parts), and the red under it is part of the figure. While this is all cool it does cause one of the two issues with this figure you can't pose her upper arms very well because her costume doesn't let them move much. The other issue is she doesn't stand to well even on the base.

Kingdom Come Superman
He is also nicely done, much better then the Kingdom Come series version (this one actual stands up ).

Ok those were short and to the point for the most part.

Yeah, I like the Star Girl figure too. I typcially pick up most female action figures because I think the better to look at.

I was looking to buy both the White Queen Retro statue

and the White Queen Modern statue

but, I may not have the funds available to buy both of them. If given the choice, which one would you pick?

I agree with you there. I really don't like the white lips on the modern version.

I went to pick this up at my LCS over the weekend, but they were sold out. The owner said she was the first to go.

Yeah. Reminds me of Tyrone Biggums.

I was recently in Japan and thought Godzilla, Ultraman, and sexy anime figures would be found almost every where. That wasn't the case. You have to go to certain store to find these toys. However, I did find some Ultraman figure sets.

I think they sell these set in the U.S. as well, which is why I didn't pick them up in Japan.

My wife said Ultraman is all over the place in Thailand... and very cheap. She picked up a few pieces for me here and there.

By the way, Target has the complete first season DVD for $5. I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

Yeah, I was in Target the other day and saw that on the shelf for $5. I was kind of surprise to see it that price.

Here's one of the figure I'm seeking to purchase next.

I was hoping I'd find this in Japan while I was there, but no luck.

Slurping on a stick with white juices... Too bad she doesn't have any juice from the stick on her boobs and around her mouth. Giggity.

Man, that's an expensive hobby.

I'm sure there are some custome variants out there like that.

Yeah, it is expensive. That's why I have to be selective and hunt for bargains.

Here's the figure on the top of my list to get next.

Vanessa from King of Fighters. It's due out sometime this month.

There's a Black Widow doll that looks really cool. I probably never end up buying it, but if I ever find it at a bargain price, I'm buying it.

Here's a few pics. They look pretty close to the real thing (see pic above).
