The story has potential, but that 2nd pic has got to be the ugliest rendering of Hal since the Silver Age. He looks like a chimpanzee.

My god, I know right. Actually, the silver age was 100% better than this piece of crap, Billy Tan is definitely the worst artist for GL ever and probably the worst comicbook artist ever. His mask is still to high, his hair is too flat, too many stray lines where he's not bothered to rub them out, too "stylised" but really just looks like he doesn't know how to draw, and even the basic structure of the body is so badly done, he's drawn muscle detail but the outer lines are straight and plat thus looks a bit like he's a skinny guy wearing one of those T shirts with the muscles drawn/printed on.

Other than the dreadful writing, Tans art is another big reason I stopped the main title years ago. Sadly for GLC the writing was awful, but the art wasn't bas (I loved the cover art but even that wasn't enough to keep me on the title, the inner art was average though). New Guardians is just bad in general, the art isn't bad, isn't good but the writing is shit. The only book I still read in the GLverse is Red Lanterns where I actually really enjoy it, but I've not read it for the last 7 or 10 issues to things might have changed. Love the cover art for RLs 32 though. Or is it 33? Not sure.

3 Things:

First that New Gods: God Head cover made me laugh. New Gods going around collecting multicolored rings, with that image of GL looking comically scared? I wasn't sure how serious to take it.

Second....a cube? Really a cube? How unoriginal and also unfitting since it only has 6 sides to fit the 7 rings on. Hopefully it's only there for the cover?

Lastly....oh right Sinestro's book I suppose it was only time that it would be part of the crossovers.

I love cosmic stories, so I would be more than welcoming for a New Gods story with the Lanterns, but having them collecting rings just seems like a silly story and I'm not sure how well they can execute it to make it seem serious.

He began penciling the series in July of '13 so if you quit reading it years ago then it was for reasons other than Tan's art. Don't go blaming the guy for other's mistakes and sub par work...

And don't go getting him confused with Philip Tan who penciled the one good Agent Orange story that introduced the character during the War of Light. Billy's full name is Billy Tan Mung Khoybut [he just goes by Billy Tan] and he's drawn nearly three times as many comics as Philip. If you HAVE to put blame on somebody for sub par artwork or writing blame the editor for letting this stuff see print. I wholeheartedly believe that an art editor should be hired to look at this stuff before it sees print. It takes two seconds to look at a pic and know if it's good work or not. But that image of Hal, good God that IS terrible.

Nothing will happen here that will change the status quo of the other corps.

Since the new gods are in this, this is probably just build up to whatever will take place next year involving darkseid and the anti monitor.

Well, the green ring is just floating over it, which could suggest it doesn't fit on a side. Green would be the most logical central ring since will is not an emotion and it can be used to control all the others (essentially, even though they are channeling such and such emotions, they are still willing the desired effect through the ring).

When I said years ago, I was exaggerating. I only started buying monthlies at the near beginning of the new 52 anyway. And Philip Tans artwork wasn't bad at all, quite good actually. Oh, and I didn't really like that story, was a big "lack luster".
