ok with blackest night centering around the dead riseing, I figure you guys are looking at zombie films for scene references and everything. My question is What zombie films are you and the other GL collaberators looking at?

I'm a zombie fanatic, and have a large zombie dvd collection. My favorites are the 28 Days/Weeks franchise, Dawn of the Dead (the remake), Shaun of the Dead, DeadAlive, and I suppose Cemetery Man. There are lots of enjoyable but terrible zombie films, but those are the actually good ones.

I'm not sure if Geoff is much of a zombie guy, although the Black Lanterns is his idea, so he must sort of like them.

You are an awesome artist, thanks for sharing your work with us. Can you tell us who you look to; perhaps for inspiration artistically? Do you follow other artists, even those outside the comics world? Your attention to accuracy and detail is what gets me. Just fantastic!

Thanks! I love Brian Bolland, Bernie Wrightson...I follow them loosely, but I try to avoid looking at too many other artists. It's best just to start with a drawing style that you've learned from another artist and let it evolve on it's own, until it's yours.

Um Ethan since Geoff is using you as design GOD for GL I was wondering if you could create the Definitive Artists reference for Salaak He keeps getting drawn with a rounded off head and what looks like a babys butt where his face is. So if you could create something that you can slip in the perminate refrence folder and pass around to the GLC art teams that would be GREAT!!!!

I'm not sure I could do that...certain artists draw characters differently, and that's just the way it is and should be. For me, the Salaak DC Direct action figure nailed it. That's the way I think Salaak should be drawn. But everyone will have their own say.

That brings up another question....when is "Flash: Rebirth" due? All I've heard is 2009. Has a more specific release date been set yet?

Speaking of the cover, Mr. van Sciver, I had a quick question about that. In the image that's surfaced since SDCC, the colorist is listed as Moose. Was this done before his falling-out with DC or is this an indication that the bridges have been mended and Moose is coming back?

Moose is my colorist, and any problems between him and anyone are irrelevant. Moose Baumann is coloring FLASH.

Hulk Hogan? I'd feel odd about it at first, but if he was fighting the Iron Sheik in a steel cage deathmatch, it'd be awesome.

Without needing to get into specifics or details or spoilers, being at the designing end of things can you tell us anything about the costumes/uniforms of the Black Lanterns? Like, how about... will they even have some kind of uniform, or just be dead dudes and dudettes flying around with rings?

Secondarily, what color will the Black Lanterns' energy output/signature be? Looking back to the Black Hand issue with Geoff and Mahnke a couple of years ago, the energy Black Hand was throwing around there seemed to be like a real dark purple-esque, or black outlined with dark purple... is this what we can expect color-wise?

There is some kind of established uniform.

I doubt you would remember me but i have met you and maybe 3 different ocassions at comic book conventions. You have signed some of my comics and a few pictures. Naturally of course im sure that im one of the hundreds of people you have done the same thing for. I just wanted to say thanks for your amzing artwork in the GL books. The Lanterns have swift become my favorite set of heroes and seeing the way you draw them makes it all the better. I am usually not good at being abe to tell which artists is drawing a comic from just looking at the art but yours i notice pretty much immediately. A friend of mine recently lent me some New X-Men books that you did some art on and with one glance at it i immediately said "Oh this is drawn by Ethan Van Sciver. Excellent!" Your art stands out and has become very recognizable to me because of just how good it is. Thanks again and i can't wait to check out your work on The Flash.
