Hal's gray temples

If I had been put in charge of the reboot, Hal's gray temples were about the only thing done to him between 1972 and 2004 that I'd have kept.

What did you guys think about them?

Limelantern 08-22-2009 06:50 PM

I didn't like how Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman got a reboot while Hal became older. It made no sense to me.

Requiem 08-22-2009 11:53 PM

I guess I always figured that Bruce and Clark were around 36, Diana was ageless, and Hall was 38-42, so it made sense to me.

IonFan 08-23-2009 12:24 AM

hated them, they were one of the reasons i could never get into GL before Kyle, Hal just looked too old to be a hero (in my eyes anyway)

Colonel Xonic 08-23-2009 12:40 AM

He looked old, but I did like them. They went well with his Lax costume made him look smart, ect. But I still think if he looked younger with a browner tone he could pull it off again :p

Mycroft 08-23-2009 03:22 AM

I dont liked them.. and he dont need them now.

Jeffi.Kaiser 08-23-2009 04:03 AM

Dont like them with his GL run, but with Parallax I thought they came off well :)

Lantern2814.20850 08-23-2009 06:17 AM

I liked 'em for the time.
It was clear that the silver age guys were showing their age somewhat. Hal was greying at the temples Ollie was just hitting his 50's all the Titans were hitting their twenties so It made sense that the Silver agers would look like they were in their late forties and such as "The Next Generation" started to take over.
Now that the Retro-heads are taking over Everyone gets de-aged (Iris Allen Was in her 60's as Bart's grandma and suddenly with Barry's return she's 30-35 again?!?)
Well, with all that it's just as well Hal lost the grey "burns"

TEN_RINGS 08-23-2009 08:54 AM

i didnt mind the temples and they did make parallax look awesome....but its like when he has them i want him young again and when he doesnt have them i want them again......i just hope that if i ever go grey i get those temples like hal had

Requiem 08-23-2009 07:09 PM

I remember they said that his grey temples were a result of Parallax, but didn't they give him the grey temples BEFORE Coast City got destroyed?

Colonel Xonic 08-23-2009 09:53 PM

In a GL suit... Bad. Too old looking and too... old.
Parallax, w/ cape= :D:cool:
If he still had the same face, not oldish, and they were grey-brown I'd say okay.

ion.nai 08-24-2009 12:11 AM

Loved them... no specific reason as to why. just thought it was a great change in style for the character.

Jay Burg 08-24-2009 03:55 AM

Hated it.

Batman can go through three Robins... but Green Lantern can't get a little bit older?

Brady SD 08-24-2009 07:49 AM

I thought Hal's grey going away was done in a totally cool way, especialy because it was a reboot and fit into the Rebirth storyline very well. Fear induced in him by Parallax caused him to stress out, worry, and grey prematurely. The Grey was a subtle sign that something was attacking him (Parallax) from within. I know in my life I went through some very stressful periods filled with anxiety and fear and I did get more grey hairs. But after a period of time I went back to normal living and they went away. This really happened for me!

Dick Grayson, Jason Todd and Tim Drake...

I'll give you one more for that girl who was Robin in "The Dark Knight Returns" but who is the 5th?

Colonel Xonic 08-25-2009 01:26 AM

When he had semi-straight hair as Parallax it looked good, but the really long-ish curly stuff... no.

Lantern2814.20850 08-25-2009 01:45 AM

Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake Stephanie Brown* and now Damien Wayne

*Stephanie on her "Death-bed" asked Bruce if she was ever really Robin or if it was just a ploy to get Tim to come back Batman told her she was truly Robin for that time
Technically, Bruce only did go through four Robins as Damien didn't get the nod 'til Dick took over but the general public doesn't know Batman is now the former Nightwing

Fearless 08-25-2009 10:11 PM

I couldn't help but notice all the posts about Hal getting older-- Hal's age wasn't the reason for the gray hair. The reason was that Parallax had infected Hal before-hand, and the gray hair was a sign of fear (At least that's how Geoff explained it...)

True, but when the hair first appeared it was due to age. The gray was never added with Parallax in mind.

Fearless 08-25-2009 11:27 PM

Who cares? The whole age concept has been Geoff-conned anyway. :p

I love how Mr. Johns makes it his mission to rewrite the history of GL as he sees fit. Much like Parallax Hal tried to re write the history of the universe.

Colonel Xonic 08-26-2009 12:57 AM

lol Good point :p

Well I was talking about when Hal had the white hair... which was about the time Tim Drake showed up.
