  • Another rumor: Kyle Rayner show at HBO Max?

    https://boundingintocomics.com/2019/...g-kyle-rayner/

A new rumor suggests Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti is developing a Green Lantern Corps show for HBOMax starring Kyle Rayner.

The rumor comes from TVO at The Lords of the Long Box.

He reports, “Greg Berlanti is developing a Green Lantern Corps TV show for HBOMax featuring everybody’s favorite Green Lantern Kyle Rayner.”

TVO explains that Hal Jordan is hands off because they plan to use him in the movies. He then points to the idea that Arrow’s John Diggle is really John Stewart in disguise. TVO notes, “John Stewart is already on Arrow with John Diggle discovering last season who he really is, if you guys have been paying attention. So we don’t know where that’s going to go. Remember John Diggle’s fathers name is Stewart. So watch out for that.” He continues, “John Stewart Green Lantern will temporarily be seen during the Crisis crossover.” He adds, “Otherwise he’s being held back as well.”

TVO then discusses why it’s going to be on HBO Max, “I’m being told it’s going to be on HBO Max because that’s the one that could give it the best budget. They don’t want to have to put it on The CW because The CW just wouldn’t do it justice.”

HBO Max will be the home to Doom Patrol. It’s unclear if DC Universe’s Titans will join them, but Berlanti is behind Titans as well as the Arrowverse show. It’s possible this Kyle Rayner Green Lantern show could be a spin-off from Titans. Rayner was fast friends with Titans member Wally West in the comics. However, West did not appear in Titans Season 1. However, he is rumored to appear in Season 2.
I'll take this with a whole salt mine full of salt, but we just discussed in the Diggle series thread that a Kyle series wouldn't be the worst idea right now.

Oh, man (!!!)... but Berlanti. I'll take it, but shesus... I don't want to see them giving Kyle the Supergirl treatment.

I guess if it's this, or nothing...?

I'd probably make it my mission in life to end them, at that point.

Oh, I think that would be delicious poetic justice for Kyle Rayner. Make it so!

I'd love a Kyle live action series, maybe that's why they teased the character in the Arrowverse with the appearance of Radu's a couple seasons back. Like somebody said though, in this day and age it'd likely be SJW'ed until it was unrecognizable. I can see it now... starring Mario Lopez as Kyle going back to art school after a failed attempt at drawing comics after moving from LA to NYC. Back in school he'd meet his new gay friend Terry Berg, his art rival and all around nutjob Alex Nero, and the girl of his dreams destined to be stuffed in a fridge by season's end... Alexandra DeWitt.

If Kyle was ever done in live action and they could stay away from the SJW shit and focus on what made the character great for the better part of his era [basically he was the darker haired Peter Parker of the DCU] I'd be ten kinds of psyched. They recreated Blue Beetle and introduced Jessica Cruz to add more Spanish speaking folks to the DCU, there's no real reason to keep bringing up Kyle's ethnicity like it's some huge part of why he's so popular. The only difference between this and Hal being Jewish outta nowhere is they don't hammer us in the head with it having Hal celebrate Hanukkah, speaking Yiddish, etc.

Oh its one of those things Tom King brought up in the Darkseid War GL one-shot. Not sure when it became a thing, but that's where I was first introduced to the idiocy...

Yep. Although in the same issue it's mentioned he's half Jewish, half Catholic and practices neither. I think he got it from the GLAS episode where Hal explains Hannukah.

I can most assuredly promise you that Hal Jordan is NOT Jewish.

Well, in the Bronze Age, they made it clear that it was Barry and not Hal:

There are different interpretations of that panel. Some people think that each one giving is holiday greetings from their own backgrounds. While it's never been made explicitly clear, Hal's background has more markers of a Jewish (or partially Jewish) upbringing than Barry's.

As for the topic at hand, nothing would make me happier than a TV show based around Kyle. While I'm hardly holding my breath over this, it seems more likely now that DC's movie properties have become less connected.

Imagine if GL got rolling again like that. Hal would be in the movies in the JLA and his solo films. John would have a CW show. Kyle would have a show on a streaming service. And then all you would need is somebody to do an animated series featuring Guy Gardner. That would be pretty cool.

In reality, we are probably getting NONE of this.

As long as it's clear that Hal is the figurehead of the property then I could be content with that.
