Well, my favorite band is Led Zeppelin. I favor melody over lyrics. And 95% of the music I like was produced before 1980. However, that includes all genres, not just rock. Hell, I even love instrumental.

I'd say I'll check out the Alkaline Trio, but one of my best friends is already hounding me about another Indie band. She LOVES the Mountain Goats. John Darnielle is modern Bob Dylan, she says.
