Should we get started? How about favorite kinds of movies?
I like Sci-Fi, Horror, Westerns, and Film Noir best, but there really isn't any one kind I won't watch at all.

Just watched The Calamari Wrestler last night. Wacked-out Japanese flick. I think it's a satire on their celebrity culture and a parody of "underdog fighting movies" in general.
Rewatching the Star Wars trilogy. Since I have the dialogue nearly memorized at this point, I'm particularly noticing set decoration, which was quite good. I noticed these neat red doors on Bespin when Lando talks to Vader.

Noir, huh?
Ever seen "Stranger on the Third Floor"?

Unfortunately not and Netlix doesn't have it and YouTube removed it (wanks).
I like Noir but I've probably seen less than 10 proper film noir titles. I need to make more of an effort.
My favorites are probably The Maltese Falcon and Double Indemnity (though the latter does break the private dick rule).

"...Indemnity" transcends the "dick rule"...(giggle).
How about "Detour" then?

That's right, it does.
I feel like I seen
Detour
but can't remember any details, so maybe not.
Saw
The Big Sleep
recently. That was really good.
I liked
Touch of Evil,
but it's been a really long time.

Kiss Me Deadly
...the ending helps 'explain' the whole thing with the briefcase in
Pulp Fiction
.
RE: The "Dick" Rule...actually, I lot of true Noir does not involve private eyes as the protagonist.

That all depends on how you define Film Noir.
It's true I would probably list the most important characteristics as the distinctive lighting and a bleak/hardened worldview.
