    • My copy of Metal Gear Solid (PS1, Greatest Hits) arrived today. Naturally, I will be putting it on my shelf to eventually play when I hook my PS2 back up in the future.

Also, don't watch Gorgeous Freeman (Half-Life 2 Gary's Mod series) on YouTube if you value your sanity.

          • Literally just beat mission 31 (giant boss fight) in Phantom Pain.

            Holy shit, this ending...!

I did manage to complete the mission in one take, not dying (thank god the the battle dress outfit for boosted defense and an upgraded set of weapons). I also managed to complete all three tasks (didn't think I'd destroy the head, but I pulled it off, and hitting the Floating Boy isn't especially hard, thought I would miss my chance but I used an SMG to nail him and then hammered the stunned boss with rockets). And thank god he didn't shoot down my chopper.

I took some great screen captures during the ending cutscenes, and when all was said and done, I had earned an A ranking. I would have gotten S except that I didn't skip the cinematics and those take up a good chunk of time.

With Part I of the game now concluded, I can move forward with much-desired side ops and earn dearly-wanted upgrades, and can play Event FOBs and thereby not risk player retaliation. With said upgrades, I can also get objectives in other missions done much easier.

Damn, the post-mission rewards are surprising! You get the Cobra Unit members' names as emblem parts! Sweet! (I should really download the extra costumes from PSN, now that I mention it).

Right now I'm did the Legendary Ibis and then Jackal missions to get the Hand of Jehuty and Wormhole Fulton upgrades. I also need to garner funds and resources for my FOB.

            • So I did something I haven't done in months: played more than five seconds of Dark Souls.

Every time I picked the game up over the past several months, I couldn't bring myself to do more than stop playing it. Just didn't care to move forward with it at all. I figured I would delete all my game data (and the Artorias DLC) and just sell the game since there are plenty of people willing to buy it, especially with Black Friday and Christmas coming up.

Throwing caution to the wind, I ran through the Valley of the Drakes to the Undead Dragon, woke him up with arrows, switched to my Drake Sword, got killed, ran back, used arrows and fire bombs, got my stuff and his stuff. From there, I proceeded into Blighttown just a bit, got the key to New Londo Ruins and quickly unlocked the gate, then made it to the Blighttown bonfire. Saved then quit.

So I am somewhat pleased to have advanced so far as I have, but I just can't hold onto the desire to play this game much anymore. I have a lot of other games to get through (looking at you, Human Revolution), and this game is for a very niche audience. As leveled as I am, and with decent items and whatnot, I still don't feel especially confident taking on Quelaag, let alone the more difficult bosses (and damn do I like Ornstein's armor).

If I don't beat Blighttown by early December, I will just delete my game files and sell the game. Somebody else can enjoy it instead. I'll settle for a video playthrough.

              • I suppose I should mention something momentous in gaming for my dad: he got the platinum for The Last of Us Remastered, having only need the trophy for Ellie's jokes (he beat Grounded+, which is a very hard thing to do even with all the carry-overs from doing Grounded the first time).

I was literally sitting there as he earned both trophies. Only things left for him are a few add-on trophies from the Left Behind DLC, but other than that, he's mastered every aspect of the game. And he's turning 63 in a couple weeks, so this is two years of his life well spent from where he's standing.

But Fallout 4 comes out on Tuesday, and both my dad and step-dad are going to be emptying themselves into it. Bleh.

                      • So I was trying like hell to do a perfect stealth S-rank run of mission 30, "Skull Face." Actually got into OKB Zero and sneaked all through it, only having a small bit of trouble but otherwise doing amazingly well.

                        B-rank final score.

It took me almost 25 minutes, admittedly, and despite that I got really good points, but the game just doesn't score this mission on anything so much as speed.

So I watched a video of someone driving into OKBZ in a Jeep, hijacking the first tank, speed-blasting their way through, S-rank. Then I remembered that if you put a smoke grenade in the back of a Jeep, enemies can barely become aware of you. I did that, though I had to restart after getting near the first gate because a sniper spotted me. Reload, don't get so close, smoke grenade, drive on through.

Granted, they became alerted to a degree (openly suspect an enemy presence), probably because I had the Jeep's lights on, but they didn't really notice me until I drove right into the final Walker Gear and dove out of the Jeep. Ran up the steps, grab the elevator cassette tape (again, apparently it produces a new one because I grabbed that the first time I played), skip all cutscenes, S-rank.

                        Hilarious.

                            • Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass Adds 16 New Maps

The Season Pass for DICE’s and Electronic Arts’ forthcoming Star Wars Battlefront is primed to release 16 brand new maps throughout the course of 2016.

With Star Wars Battlefront releasing less than two days from now, DICE and Electronic Arts are doing everything humanly possible to hype the release of the upcoming sci-fi shooter, which includes today’s announcement of the game’s Season Pass providing an additional 16 multiplayer maps next year. According to the title’s official website, there will be four expansions in all, with the first one going live in “early” 2016, so as to supplement the 12 multiplayer maps already available at Star Wars Battlefront‘s base game’s launch.

The Season Pass will also include 20 “new pieces of galactic tech”, meaning that there will be extra weapons, vehicles, as well as Star Cards. Not to mention, 4 more Heroes and Villains are to become playable—joining Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Princess Leia, and more —as well as 4 fresh game modes. Purchasing Star Wars Battlefront‘s Season Pass also gives fans access to the add-on content two weeks in advance of those without the package, and it will include a fun little “Shoot First” emote.

On the surface, all of this content seems to be quite sumptuous, but the $50 price tag for the Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass is likely to give many pause, as it’s one of the most expensive pieces of DLC to hit the market in quite some time. With its cost being 10 bucks shy of the fee for a brand new game, a lot of fans could be wary to drop so much extra coin at the outset of Battlefront‘s launch, especially after having just bought the main version of the title.

However, should Battlefront fans plan to master all that the game has to offer in the long run, it might be a smart investment to simply pay for everything up front as early as posible. If players wish to take that route, they can always pay for the game’s Ultimate Edition, which is listed at a whopping $120.

With so many Star Wars related products dropping near the release date of the next film, Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Battlefront ought to remain fresh in gamers’ minds throughout the remainder of the holiday season, which should translate to impressive sales. After all, EA’s announcement of the title’s beta player count nearly exceeding 9 million players is definitive proof that plenty of people are interested in the action FPS, as the brand still remains a potent force with which to be reckoned.

Taking all of this into consideration, Electronic Arts is anticipating Star Wars Battlefront being a massive success, predicting it will sell 13 million units after release. Of course, with the publisher’s sci-fi shooter having plenty of stiff competition available to potentially stymie Battlefront‘s sales—Fallout 4 immediately comes to mind—only time will tell whether or not DICE’s and EA’s effort can best the opposition.

Star Wars Battlefront is set for release this Tuesday, November 17, 2015, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
