I find that debatable, they never really changed much in the mechanics for part 2. In any case Dead Space 1 is the best game in the series. They only progressively get worse with each game. DS2 is decent though, it's like the sequel to Alien, more action but still enough horror and suspense in there. Part 3 they just turned it into an action game, with an OT story and the game is more about finding loot like Borderlands rather than horror.

Dead Space 1 is one of my favourite horror games of all time, it's up there with the better RE games and Silent Hill's.

EA fucked things up and now that team is reduced to making Battlefield spin off games, damn shame.

    What a mess!
Internal video resolution is fixed at 720p, if you play it on higher resolutions it's pillarboxed! (There's a mod to fix that though).
There're also framerate issues (which I haven't noticed myself I have to admit) and pressing ESC closes the game immediately without any confirmation!

The game itself works and looks nice for a 5 year old game.

I paid 11€ so I'm not going to complain but they need to fix those issues!
With how that release turned out and what I've been reading about Evil Within, I'd say Japanese devs are not used to porting games to PC, but then I think of Ubisoft and how they also release shit ports. The problem as I've been discussing else where on the net is that PC players just like to throw more power at the problem. Sure if you can afford it, go buy 2 titans, but when you're not seeing a significant leap in visuals or fps, what are you spending all that money for? Does Evil Within really look that much better than RE 6 graphically? FF13 is an old game, so why such odd requirements? Again the modding scene saves a game. That guy deserves a shit load of money, it took him just a few hours to sort the game out, something these devs couldn't be arsed to do, but will happily take your money for a shit job.

Unless the game is taking things to whole new Crysis level visuals, there should be no excuses. It has completely put me off buying Evil Within, which no doubt will be saved by modders again.

Especially if you take into consideration that PS4 and XBone architecture isn't that far removed from PC architecture. I suspect for a long time now that the problems aren't with the PC but with the games in general. They're written poorly and could probably look much better on consoles if the devs took more time for code optimization, which will obviously never happen if Ubisoft pukes out 2 Assassin Creed games a year.

as far as horror gos i agree dead space 1 was best when it came to that but lets not pretend the controls werent clunky as shit bro.

as far as ea.......... wile im not a huge supporter of theres and yes they have a bad history but there only trying to keep up with what gamers want wich is mostly shooters now a days

i mean if you look at the video game market now you see more fps than you do say action adventure or rpgs. i still never played ds3 and i refuse 2 since after watching a video of the gameplay i just didnt like where it was going

What's funny is that both consoles use old tech, there only advantage is the vram which is 8gb. That's why I feel sorry for anyone that went out and bought a 970 etc with only 2 or 3 vram thinking that was them covered for this gen. Nope, I wouldn't even look at 2-3 vram vcards, 4vram will be the minimum for this gen you can bet, I would put money on getting a 6-8vram card.

I mean a 970 with 2 vram should technically destory what ever is being done on a PS4 etc, but like mentioned they can't be arsed to go that extra mile to make it work, so you suffer.

I mean god damn, people make fun of the Wii U, but neither the XB1 or PS4 can do 1080p 60fps. Especially the XB1 since in their stupidity they backed the kinect and hindered their own machine in doing so, which is now making their console look weak next to PS4 multi plat titles.

Some people have already got Evil Within on consoles, I know the PS360 runs and looks like shit, no surprise there. I've read that the PS4 version has frame issues, but they might be releasing or have released a patch to help.

I think the real test will come when they release GTA V, as I'm sure a ton of people have been waiting for the PS4/XB1 and PC versions. I think that along with Batman and Witcher 3 will be the bench mark titles for this gen.

Ubisoft lucky I don't like their games, unless they make a stand alone Blood Dragon 2, then I'm fucked lol.

Erm what? The controls are the damn same. The only thing they improved was the flying parts, simply because there was more flying in space parts.

RPGs went to hand helds, if you owned a DS, 3DS, PSP or Vita you wouldn't be saying that. While I agree I doubt RPG's will re claim home consoles, the budget/profit to make them does not justify it, apart from giant games like Final Fantasy and Witcher etc.

Action adventure hmm you still get them but not as many, if you want to talk about games that vanished then I'd pick scroll em beat em ups, click n play and shumps, of course these games are still made, but they're so out of sight compared to their heydays.

this is why i want to be involved in the gaming industry. for someone like me with zero college education give me a video game license like indiana jones to work with give me a video game license for a star wars title i can work with.

i mentioned this in the star wars thread i really wanted to see indiana jones tackle greek mythology as a movie involving zueses thunderbolt or even pandoras box. if i were to take that idea and make a game out of it i can see it become something amazing.

anytime i play a game or even watch a movie i think to myself ok if i was doing it how can i take it to the next level?

as for star wars i wouldnt base it on before the 6 movies or even in between but i would do something of the sorts where you start as a padawan under a jedi and go the kotor where whatever decisions you make can affect your affiliation of jedi or sith. id probably shoot for 50 years into the future introduce all new charachters and some cameos of older ones.

              • Well, I managed to beat Hitman: Absolution on Hard, and damn were some parts annoying as shit (Countdown!!!).

When the achievement didn't pop, I scoured about for clues, and even replayed the entire first mission (including the non-rated parts, just in case). Turns out you need to kill Lenny in the desert or it doesn't count, and because I had left him alive, it needed redoing. So I loaded up the mission, grabbed the shotgun, and gave him a face full of buckshot.

                Hard mode, defeated!

Feels good adding this to my modest list of achievement-complete games.

                • Yeah, I'll have the same by the end of today (Agent and I have been swapping stories, hints, and challenges for over a week). Now, I'm glad that although I let Lenny live (for an achievement) that I didn't do it on my Hard game save.

I'm not sure if I've ever specifically set out to get every achievement and challenge in a game before. If I did, I don't remember the last time. Hitman: Absolution certainly had a lot of them--46 achievements by XBox's reckoning with multiple additional challenges for every mission in game.

                            • I'd normally be all over those codes, but I've decided to wait for the GOTY edition.

So I've been reading and watching Evil Within stuff, I also obtained the game through other means wink wink. So what I'm about to say is to help JohnnyV or anyone else on the fence about buying this.

I tried the game upto Chapter 3 and then turned it off. I was mostly just testing stuff, changing the resolution seemed to have no effect on fps. Locked at 30fps the game would dip into 20's and then even 10's especially when near fire, these were in the more open areas of the game. Unlocked the highest I got was 40 but then the same kind of dips.

I tried the recently released mod of removing black bars and fixing fov, now this helped the game look more like Dead Space/RE games, but obviously did not fix the poor performance. I have no problem running Crysis 3 on high 1080p 60fps, this game is seriously ugly compared to that. Infact RE6 even though the gameplay is a mess, the graphics are way above what I'm seeing in Evil Within, and guess how well RE6 ran? Yeah 60fps no problem, hell the graphics are below even RE5 imo. Something about it reminds me of Deadly Premonition, not that it's as low as that but the style and texture palette along with some blurriness.

I'm not a graphics whore, I would over look that if the gameplay is good, and that's the worst thing about this mess. The game underneath this technical horrific game engine known as idtech5, is actually a good one from what I've played. I keep saying it, but it's a damn shame, I think this will be a game the mod community will work on for a number of years to try and get it working right.

As for people saying they played it flawlessly, which I'm seeing on the steam forums as well, I have to call bs unless they show me a vid and tell me there rig setup, you've seen from DF test itself "Not even an overclocked i7 and the fastest GPU on the planet can manage it." So those people must have cards from another planet or something and if you're ok with 30fps with dips for about 2k worth of gear then something else is wrong. The majority of people on Steam don't have 2 grand machines, hence the hell fire backlash going on the Steam forums right now.

I suppose we can wait to see what this patch Bethseda claims to have coming, tbh I don't have much faith in it working some miracle. I could not advise anybody to spend money on this game, save your money, if you really still want to play it, wait a while, this game will be cheap very soon...
