  • Green Lantern DLC (this summer)

The pack is focused heavily on the world of Green Lantern, and is specifically inspired by recent additions to the character's mythos in comic books written by DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns. The update adds a seventh power set, Light, with heroic characters utilizing willpower to join the Green Lantern Corps as reserve members, and villains using fear to link up with the Sinestro Corps.

"Players will now be able to create a character — or re-stack one that they have that they've maxed out already — and switch over or level up the character with light powers," creative director Jens Andersen said in a conference call with video game press.

Andersen said that creating hard light constructs "plays very differently" compared to learning other new abilities.

"You learn how to make a construct, and that construct, when you activate it, actually has its own set of combos, and moves, and super-abilities," Andersen said, adding that the hard light powers will be layered on top of existing weapons and skills.

"Fight for the Light" also contains new gameplay scenarios for the MMORPG: "S.T.A.R. Labs," "Coast City" and "Sciencells Prison." All three are four-person "Alerts," and Coast City introduces Atrocitus and the Red Lantern Corps to the game.

Andersen indicated that following "Fight for the Light," the rest of the Emotional Spectrum might not be far behind.

"Obviously now that we have hard light constructs and the new light powers, it's very easy for us to expand out into those other areas," he said.

The DLC pack will also feature the debut of Guy Gardner in the game, as part of the Sciencells Prison scenario. Andersen said that Kyle Rayner will also be added to the cast of DC Universe Online, though did not reveal in what capacity.

"Fight for the Light" is scheduled for later this summer (no firm release date yet), with a price tag of $9.99. More updates of this nature are planned, with the aim of releasing periodic DLC packs rather than the more traditional system of annual expansions.

DCUO WANTS YOU FOR THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS! - 07/11/2011
SAN DIEGO – July 11, 2011 – Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) today announced the first Downloadable Content (DLC) pack for DC Universe Online (DCUO), "Fight for the Light." Featuring DC Comics favorite The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and the introduction of the game's seventh power set – Light, the new downloadable content will be available this summer for both PC and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

"The Green Lantern has been a mainstay for DC Comics fans for more than 60 years, and is a fan favorite among our players," said Mark Anderson, Game Director of DC Universe Online. "We've listened to the feedback, and fans can now create their own Lantern-inspired characters including the use of light powers."

In addition to the new light power set, players will also be able to interact with Green Lantern based characters and content in DC Universe Online in these all-new gameplay scenarios:

S.T.A.R. Labs – Deep within S.T.A.R Labs, Brainiac seeks to control experimental devices that will allow him to harness the power source behind the Lantern Corps' rings. This attack throws the Lantern Corps into chaos, and players must join a fragile truce between the Green and Yellow Lantern Corps to bring the powerful devices back under STAR Labs control.

Coast City – Players must battle their way through the "City Without Fear" to Ferris Aircraft, the home of fighter ace Hal Jordan. Here they face the unbridled rage of the Red Lantern Corps in a showdown to save the city and the Universe.

Sciencells Prison – On the Green Lantern Corp's home planet Oa, heroes will join with Guy Gardner to stop a prison break that threatens to release the most feared prisoners of the Green Lantern Corps. Villains will fight alongside Sinestro as he attempts to release the Green Lantern Corps' greatest foes and retrieve the evil Lyssa Drak from her emerald powered prison cell.

Green Lantern offers another exciting superhero for PC and PS3 players to join forces with in their epic battles online, following DCUO's ongoing combat missions featuring other DC Comics legends such as, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Joker and Lex Luthor.

DC Universe Online's "Fight for the Light" DLC pack will be available for download for $9.99 USD this summer for PC and PlayStation®3 players.

I don't care if I have to pay, it will be mine! I just hope all the good names aren't taken. I remember getting jacked up for City of Heroes and then being told "all the good names were taken" by people who'd followed the development of the game with me for years on their [Cryptic's] forums.

With this MMORPG though I can play through a console, so that means I don't have to worry about getting a new v-card for graphics or anything. I just wish I could find some drug addict selling his PS3 for cheap... LOL

I've got two ideas for characters, one being a GL archetype [of course], and then another for Superman.

Can you create teams within the game, or is there any P vs P?

yes but like your market place it's waiting for SCEE to give it the green light. (see what I did there?)
