I wouldn't hold my breath. They may just be looking for coherence going FORWARD, and may decide the easiest way to achieve it is tossing the existing EU almost entirely.
Though I will admit that this announcement does seem MORE hopeful for the EU than otherwise. It would seem like such a group would (as the article points out) have little to do if it was just going to say "Ditch the EU!".
Unless it is going to ditch the existing EU, but has decided to be proactive about divvying up the stories to be told in their NEW coherent universe between comics, books, and movies. In other words, perhaps their goal is to create an overall story framework in advance, instead of taking submissions as they come and trying to figure out where they fit in. Though if THAT is the case, it sounds frighteningly limiting, so I hope not.
