  • Green Lantern Package Design by Lantern Lad

This was my packaging class final (turned in today for a grade... which was an A-... the bastard). Here were the rules (because the instructor is oh-so pleased with himself when he sets lofty goals):

Product: Action figure, at least 7" tall (guess who I picked?)
Substrate: Chip (cardboard) with a PVC window showing at least 3 sides of the project
    Other:
    • Package had to be a unique shape, not seen before... ever... or at least by the instructors eyes (he works for Disney in their product packaging department)
    • Product photography to be taken by the student (no internet images)
    • All artwork had to be original (duh, it's an art school... though you'd be surprised how many people here cannot draw to save their lives)
    • All legal/safety information had to be present

Here you go, let me know what you think!

Thanks folks! It was a lot of fun to do... and I had some vindication when I took it into my local comic shop.
They said: "When the Hell did Mattel start releasing Green Lantern Corps figures? We haven't seen anything about it!"

Made me feel pretty good. I think there's a few things I may do to improve on it, but I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out!

It just seems like a no-brainer to me. There are limitless story possibilities they could do with Green Lantern toons, movies... whatever, and think of the recognizability of merchandising figures in GL shaped packages. I need to go pitch some ideas to people...

You should. The idea for the Green Lantern symbol for the packaging is a genius idea that I have a hard time believing it hasn't been used before.

absolutly fantastic, in fact you should offer to make versions for some of the custom figures here and hook up with Jack-O-Lantern and Carboner and such, fucking awesome!

Dude, that is amazing! Did your teacher even give you a reason why he only gave you an A-? I could totally see that being in a Toys R' Us or something.

I agree with Mav, that should be a perfect score, plus extra credit for creativity. Awesome work, man.

Thank you...! My ultimate goal would be to work in the figure packaging industry. Mattel, Hasbro, DCD, whoever! If I couldn't work on the DC team at Mattel or DCD, I'd take the GI Joe team at Hasbro...

Of course, I'd take a position in the Barbie department if it got me a good paying job!
