  • Badges or Rings for donations.

Forums, we know em, we love em, but they take money to run. Money, despite our varied attempts, does not grow on trees. So, on alot of the forums I have been on, there is a system for donations. For a certain amount (like $5 - $10) you donate, you get a tag next to or under your name. On some it is a star, on others just a simple banner that shows up under your name.

My idea is that we implement something here, but instead of a star, you get a ring, or a little GL symbol. (Or the other colors if that is a possibility.) I think it would be a great way to earn a little cash towards the site that isn't a required type of deal, and could go towards the maintenance of the site and forum, heck, maybe even be used to fund giveaways or contests and the like.

This is of course merely my opinion, and could be construed as me being a stark raving nutter, but I thought it might be a good way to help the site out that would be kinda neat.

I say its a good idea the other forum I am on allows for donations, but in the form of a raffle and said person wins something unique like a pre-production figurine which usually does quite well on that forum.

Maybe that could be implemented here aswell, say a raffe consisting of 49 entries (first come first serve) and the winning lottery bonus ball chooses the winner (this is how it is done on the other forum) so that there is no cheating going on. And the winner recieves the prize, which could be something green lantern related i.e a ring, figure, tshirt etc which would of been donated to the raffle members of the forum, or even get Ethan to sign a copy of GL to give away aswell (just a thought)

I would gladly make a custom figurine for any such thing.

I think he meant that we could get that site to make the rings and/or badges for the forum.

Have mods seen this thread as I do think it is an idea, and just had another idea.

If we had badges for the amount of posts people make and contribute to the forum they get a Green Badge and then after a Sinestro one etc etc and so on...

Green Lantern Badge - 500 posts
Yellow Lantern Badge - 750 posts
Star Sapphire badge - 1000 posts
Red Lantern badge - 1250 posts
Blue Lantern badge - 1500 posts
Orange Lantern badge - 1750 posts
Black Lantern badge - 2000 posts

Obviously the number of posts could be modified for say every 1000 posts you get a badge..and say if you reach say 5,000 posts you could get a plastic ring or a GL symbol Patch that can go on a tshirt, bag etc etc

How does that sound for an idea as it promotes users to use the forum and get involved more and not linger in the background and just read topics, it promotes the forum if the badges are specific enough and other fans can come and join to get their hands on one of them..

If I could produce the badges I would certainly offer to do this for the forum as Ive only been a member about a week but I find it to be a very friendly place and get on with other members, and its a nice place for other members to offer their time and help to find what other collectors are looking for. And I do want to give something back to the forum.

well if it was rings/badges thats where donations would come in I would imagine, and donations would come from competitions etc etc hosted on the board for example I could raffel off a custom I have made and members pay £1/$1 (or whatever currency they have) to enter the raffle winner gets the custom or item in question.

It works for the other forum Im on for the figurines I collect, as they get pre-production models, early editions of figurines before they hit the shops stuff like that. And that does bring the members together Id say.

Ah, okay, not really what I meant in my first post. Not a bad idea, just not what I was meaning.

On other sites, (I will use the forum at xda-developers.com as an example, a site dedicated to software developement for HTC brand mobile devices.) When you make a monetary donation to the site itself, for every $10 donated you get a star next to your name, as shown in the thread below:

                      http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469450

That guy, NotATreoFan, has 9 stars next to his name. That means he has donated approximately $90+ to the site, xda-developers.com.

My take on this idea was that instead of us getting stars, we get little Green Lantern symbols (or rings) that would show up next to our names. Not anything tangible, but a neat little way to show your support for the site that would be a nice little thing to have next to your name in the forum.

It would be fairly easy to do (or at least I am pretty sure it would be easy to implement) and would cost the site next to nothing, thus earning them the maximum potential for the funds donated to them. It may even be possible to do in different colors (so that instead of Lime having like 5 GL symbols, he could have 5 Sinestro Corps symbols, and I could have 5 Red Lantern symbols, or something like that).

Hope that clarified what I was getting at.

I think the idea of having a raffle for physical items is a good one, just not the one I was trying to put out there. Plus, I think this way is easier for the site admin to setup, as opposed to having to track down a physical ring (we all know how hard that can be) or having some company make a set number of patches for your sleeve or whatever.

woops lol completely missed interpreted what you meant my bad but comps from time to time would also generate more members to as to get a figure or custom etc as an incentive.

I would gladly make a custom them raffle it off every now and then for the forum, just so I could give something back the way I know how..and thats customs lol

but yeah sorry again with my mis-interpretation, but the ideas do work on Superherofigurineforum.
