  • Come up with the worst possible retcon for GL

Inspired by the thread over at CBR, and all the talk about too many retcons, I thought it mught be interesting to give GL fans a try. http://forums.comicbookresources.com...d.php?t=239660

    For mine
Hal and the Corps never really came back at all. They are all constructs created by Kyle unconsciously while he was Ion the first time.

    Okay, I like a challenge

Natu is actually Sinestro's illegitimate daughter with Katma Tui, sent back through time to avert the Brightest day

      Absolute worst huh.

How about this. First off well make Hal a drunk and give him grey streaks in his hair. Hal goes nuts and turns evil. Not just evil I mean kicking puppies eveil just about as evil as you can go. Then he systematicly decimates the GLC and Guardians and destroys the Central Power Battery, and absorbs all the power therin and goes on a spree of making the wrong things right.

How about we allow one of the Guardians to survive and give the last ring to some undeserving shmuck taking a piss in an alley. Thereby making him the last Green Lantern, but since the guy is a retard he won't really know what he's doing and wackyness ensues.

Oh wait how bout we let this shmuck beat Hal and in a final insult we make Hal into the Spectre after he sacrifices himself to re ignite the sun.

Man, this is the most absurd storyline I can think of, do you think I'll win?

Hal never had any character, it was all a giant fucking yellow grasshopper! and the weakness to yellow? fucking grasshopper! but its all ok now, he never killed anyone and he will never face any repercussions of his actions and in fact lets just never refer to the 90s in print. geoff Johns for the win!

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Well except for the Hal not having character thing.

I still hold that as it stands, with Geoff Johns as writer, Hals character is basically 2 dimensional.

I don't think it's just GL comics. It looks like comics in general are ignoring pretty much anything 90's.

The 90's were a dark time for comics in general, and I for one am glad that steps are being taken to eliminate that blight.

Keep in mind, Kyle is the ONLY 90's DC character that still around, no character created in the 90's save for Steel and Hank Henshaw even exist in continuity anymore. Any fan of his should be thankful that Geoff Johns decided to keep him on at all.

And that is no slur on the character, it's a fact.

I have actually gained a respect for Kyle because of Johns, and that is definately saying a lot. I don't know why he has such a rabid fanbase but I have to respect it, the character has had staying power where some of the more forgettable charcters of the 90's are barely even remembered.

What is the status on Steel and Henshaw now since almost all Superman continuity has been reset again? Are they universal enigmas like Powergirl?

At this point only God and Didio know the answers to that.

The 90s did give us some other good chars, like Bane and Carnage but even the best new chars get sidelined in favour of the old flagships

Also, new recton: Kilowog is in fact a warthog from Earth evolved by the Krolatean Germlins

have present day Kyle rayner make a deal with the devil to bring alex, jade and his mother back... then all of the sudden we go back to the time hal is about the recieve the ring... kyle rayner ends up being closer, and a 14 yr old kyle gets the ring and becomes Teen lantern, and hal jordan is not a gl until Kyle's hometown is destroyed and Alex, jade and kyles mother are killed by henshaw and mongul, and kyle goes nuts and asborbs the CPB calls himself ionallax then kills off of the guardians except ganthet who makes hal jordan the last GL. ten years later Kyle is given the ring again and still stricken by grief over the loss of alex, jade, and his mother he makes a deal with the devil, and the story starts again.

                        DONE

Alan Scott wakes up in 1940, surviving a massive train wreck. The lantern has no powers, their is no Green Lantern Corps, it was all a dream of his unconscious mind. After losing his mind, not being able to cope with the fact that he is not a superhero, he attempts to build a "power suit" to emulate the rings powers. He is strapped for cash, he decides to rob Gotham First National to fund his project. Batman kills him with a batarang to the base of his skull.

                            Worst. Comic. Ever.

Mogo is in actuality the real power behind the Green Lantern Corps and the Guaridans are just proxies
