. . . This is comics. Not to trivialize the medium, but a lot of us are here just to have escapist fun, not to debate socio-political issues.

I know this is me. The main reason I chose DC over Marvel was because I don't want to read stories about people struggling to pay the bills or dealing with alcoholism (unfortunately, DC has often chosen to follow Marvel down that path), but just want to read modern mythology. There are exceptions where I'll pick up a renowned graphic novel that does these things, but the huge majority of my comic reading is for unreal escapism, not dealing with the regular problems I already have in my life or see around me.
