  • should green lantern have power to transport?

    just like how the indigo lanterns have the power to zap in wherever/whenever they want as well as kyle as the white lantern, should this be a power implemented into the new 52 green lantern rings? as well as possible other color corps?

    I think keeping each color's abilities somewhat unique will keep them from losing their appeal.

    Green = constructs
    Red = vomit
    Orange = flickering, stealing identity
    Yellow = cutting through green
    Blue = healing, charging green (and now indigo)
    Indigo = interstellar teleport
    Violet = crystals, heart tethering

        I always kind've wondered this but do GL's have the power to create wormholes? Like how do they get around the universe so quickly? In the film Hal made one to get himself to Oa. I've always figured that's how they got around but I don't think I've ever actually seen that in the comics before. So does anybody know if they can?

          In the past the ability was there but for some reeason around the 70's DC felt it was cool to start depowering Green Lantern and it seems every year it gets worse.

          Siler age ring though could truely do anything the bearer imagined,70's onward,who Knows?

            They made a point of this in the animated series by creating a ship that is faster than the green lanterns.
            GL power rings should not make the bearer omnipotent. That wouldn't make for interesting stories.

              I can dig where you are coming from. But the Most powerful weapon in the universe is way way way to weak these days. It should make GL way more powerful then the other heroes because in a comon sense universe,there are planets out there where everyone is as strong as Superman,Giving a Green Lantern a ring that only makes constructs a certain amount strong is useless. It has to be as strong as they can Imagine or as strong as thier will can hold it.For them to be able to do thier job.

              To be a protector of a sector that,that has planets thousands of light years apart,You have to be able to move at a speed that would blow flash's mind. People seem to forget just how big space is. And the way Johns has the Sectors devided,each sector runs half the size of the universe. That is unimaginably large.

              It is funny how the weakest heroes,are treated as the Strongest and the ones who should be the strongest are treated as the weakest.

                The only limit is the wearers imagination and willpower. A ring can make you fly, phase through walls, why shouldn't you be able to teleport?

                  Not per se, but they've gotten around this in different ways. Usually they just say that GLs can move faster than light in space (which is necessary for them to get anywhere within the majority of their lifetimes), so essentially they warp. I've never seen them make worm holes but for a while Hal used to rely on a worm hole "just beyond Pluto" that shot him right to Oa.

                  Yeah and they could time travel too, which would lend you to believe they could teleport. I mean, seems like if faster-than-light speed, transmutability, and time manipulation are done, teleportation can't be far removed. But it would ruin some comic book suspense if they could always be immediately where they have to be. And I can't think of an instance of it (despite numerous instances of "I might not make it to Planet X in time").

                    Perhaps it drains the ring too fast?

                      Van Jensen explained how Green Lanterns go from place to place in space in Green Lantern Corps #22 of the current volume. Since the magazine he edits goes over a lot of science stuff, he actually thinks about things like this.

                      And no, I don't think Green Lanterns should be able to teleport. Or it should at least be something we don't see them ever do because it would be an act of will that would be too great to accomplish for them.

                      In other words, I don't think it would be an intriguing addition to their power set.

                        Here is a fun fact for you. If Gil Kane GL was traveling to Oa 100 times the speed of light,He still would not be there. I alwys assumed that the ring went into a Super duper type of hyper space. That the rings have the sectors pretty much maped out,and do all the work for the wearer. At that kind of speed no one would be able to react fast enough o avoid obsticles.

                        That is jus the conclusion I have drawn,kinda of a further thought on what Sinestro explained to Hal in EDII,when he was like just let your ring dodge asteroids,doing it manually is a waste of time. Plus I always got the sense that even at the fastest speed imaginable, it would still take a GL a obscene amount of time,that why in the Old Days the Guardians use to summon Hal's astral form.

                          I'm loving all the science arguments for a universe in which there's a squirrel with a power ring named Ch'p.

                            Well, that's a bit hard to say, since we haven't any idea exactly how far Oa is from Earth. (I suppose it might have been mentioned once, but if it was mentioned twice I'd bet the two numbers were different.) It has been described as being at the center of our galaxy, at the edge of our galaxy, and (most commonly, I believe) at the center of the universe. The first two are close enough that your hypothetical GL might have made it there by now if he started back when Showcase 22 was published. The third is a nonsenical designation that has no real meaning, at least not in OUR universe.

                            But yeah, space is big. REALLY, REALLY big.
