  • Do you want Sinny to rejoin the Corps? Should he be redeemed?

I can't shake these couple of panels out of my mind from the Sinestro Corps War backup story. This is very clearly intended to be prophetical.

Does Geoff truly intend to construct a kind of story in which Sinestro will truly redeem himself and prove himself -- perhaps in some kind of sacrificial manner in a heroic moment or otherwise -- the greatest Green Lantern of all time? Does it just portend to only how Sinestro sees himself? Is it something else?

I think somehow, someway, Sinestro will be known again as the Greatest Green Lantern.

I think he'll be redeemed and he may even "die" for some time or give up the rings all together. All the Star Wars analogies up to this point have had Hal as Anakin/Vader but I see that role now looking more like Sinestro.

Kyle will always be the skywalker of the group....

yeah, but sometimes i think that this could only happen if he did in battle with the GLC, but then again, i would really hate it if Sin died in Blackest Night..

and one thing, before Hal Jordan, why was Sinestro called the Greatest, is it because of his beliefs? but what are they really?, right now one things for sure, he wants order in the universe right?, but his methods are bad and extreme, so is he called the greatest because keeping order and peace is what he does best even though his methods are evil?...and isnt the GLC's goal is also to preserve peace in the universe and maintain order?

but heres what buggles me a bit, during the sinestro corps war, he used fear, he believed in fear, he believed that it is to be used to change the universe, to have control and order...but now , he's saying that he still believes in the GLC, hence still believing in Willpower than fear, so is he bluffing / playing with Hal?

I really don't see how Sinestro plans to be redeemed. He gave out power rings to some of the sickest most perverted, crazy psychos in the universe. and then tried really hard to kill off as many GL's as possible, as well as release the most dangerous criminal. And this is not revenge against the GL's? The only conclusion I can come to is he wants to replace the GL's with his fear corps and keep the peace through Fear alone.

Simple: Only the sickest, most deranged and "Feared" creatures in the Universe, working together for a common goal, could convince the Guardians to change their Laws/Minds.

Exactly. Sinestro is like a puppet master.

There is no separation as you are presenting it. Fear is simply Willpower turned against people, to bend them to your Will. Fear is forcing your Will upon a person, using threats/scare tactics to make sure they obey you.

Is that not essentially what the Guardians have always done? They have always forced their Order on people, their Way, their Will. From the beginning, with the Manhunters, they looked to make the Universe behave in the way THEY wanted it to.

The only difference between then and now, is then, they used the veil of "Space Cops, good guys who can 'overcome Fear'" to enforce their laws. Well, Sinestro just proved to them that simple Will alone is NOT enough to Enforce Order throughout the Universe. Fear is needed, Fear is the Key. And the Guardians know this and have now accepted it. You cannot deny that. Just look at the end of GLC Recharge, were one of the Guardians says "Perhaps it is time to make the Universe afraid of us." Its all right there.

I think the reason why Sinestro was the Greatest Green Lantern is because, regardless of his methods, he is the only Lantern to have complete and absolute Order in his Sector, which is exactly what the Guardians want. I think the reason why they decided he was "bad" is because he Out Guardianed the Guardians. He did what they never could, and it scared the blue shit right out of them.

Just to drive my point home, why is it people don't break the Law? What is it about our society, or all societies for that matter, that prevents it?

Fear. Fear of imprisonment, Fear of bodily harm, Fear of death. Only those who have no Fear, or have overpowering motives break the Law. The rest of us common people Fear for what might happen if we "break the rules".

It's how it has always been, back to the beginning of civilization. Fear of what might happen to you if you do what someone in authority has deemed "bad".

So logically, the only way the Guardians could truly enforce Universal order, is to have the entire Universe afraid of what might happen to them if they disobey.

This is why it doesnt matter if the Sin Corps are even around (I believe they are all pawns used by Sinestro anyway) because at the end of the day, the GLC will be no different from the Sin corps - The Universe will Fear them.

I'm thinking he'll become a GL again in Blackest Night and fight alongside Hal only to be killed. Like people said above, it'd be kind of Darth Vaderish.

I hope not. All great superheroes have great enemies: Batman/Joker, Superman/Lex Luthor, Green Lantern/Sinestro.

Sinestro is a great, complex villain. Lets hope he stays that way.

In order of villians, I would go:

Joker - Batman (the dynamic here is just so awesome. Not a huge Batman fan, but I'll admit to this being the best pairing of a hero and a villain ever. Which is which? Hard to tell sometimes.)

Sinestro - Hal Jordan (Maybe not readily aparent, but these two have deep history, and both can relate to each other more than anyone. Who else besides Sinestro turned on the Corps? Hal Jordan. Who else beside Hal Jordan was the Greatest GL? Sinestro. It goes on and on.)

Luthor - Superman (A lot of people would put this above Hal and Sin-o, an dto be honest I would have too a while ago. Their relationship has the potential to be so dynamic and intertwined it would put them at the top, but from what I've seen recently it's just not where it could be.)

Wasn't Sinestro all about revenge against the GL's in his early years? Wonder what changed his mind. He may be a master manipulater, but he just lost his grip on reality.
