See, I'm actually pretty sympathetic to that argument. While I don't resent anyone for liking some kind of entertainment and I don't consider it worth shouting about (or even starting a social media account that I don't have), I do resent that SW continued after RotJ. I maintain that until the seqs (the preqs had their own retconning problems but not this one), that I was allowed (and even encouraged by the story) to believe the Sith and Empire were defeated forever and Han and Leia would have a long, happy relationship. Now, for me to 'believe' that is the equivalent of putting my head in the sand because there is an official, canonical story saying my heroes' victory was fleeting and meaningless and their lives sucked. But I realize this isn't a SW thread.

As to this, Thorne's writing isn't my cup of tea, but there are things I liked here and I don't mind the option of them bringing back the other John. This is also a self-contained story so it's not radically re-writing the GLU or anything (like say Johns so often did). I also agree with your friend that this is still cryptic, but not incomprehensible like Morrison's stuff.
