If they want my undivided attention, give me a casting announcement to rival RDJ as Tony Stark, because that's the caliber of performer Marvel should be tapping.

I don't think I've ever even seen anything with Emily Blunt in it...

That doesn't really fit with "Marvel's franchise building on a budget" approach.

That says more about you than her buddy. Also, no one gave two fucks about RDJr right before he was Iron Man.

West actually answered what I was going to say for Hypo for me, at least from a budgeting concern; true, nobody cared about RDJ before Iron Man, but he had been in things beforehand and there was evident potential there. I want a pick like that; a pick that, on the surface, seems unlikely or even crazy, but that there's potential there.

As for whatever saying "more about you than here," what do you mean? Me not seeing Emily Blunt in anything? If so, just know I did a quick filmography check and noticed she was in Looper. I totally forgot that she was in that... I liked that movie.

Anyway, as for the film itself, Captain Marvel never grabbed me, male or female. I'd happily take a Black Widow flick, though.

          Also, West:

          • Oscar Isaac to Play Villain in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Oscar Isaac has closed a deal to play the titular comicbook villain in 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men: Apocalypse.”

Bryan Singer will direct to direct the superhero pic with Simon Kinberg writing the script.

Singer has described the upcoming X-Men film, which is expected to feature all cast members including Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy, as the most destructive movie in the franchise.

“‘Apocalypse’ will have more of the mass destruction that ‘X-Men’ films, to date, have not relied upon,” he recently said. “There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.”

Singer also suggested that “Apocalypse,” set in the 1980s, could feature younger versions of familiar characters.

Fox will release on May 27, 2016.

The most recent “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” co-starring Hugh Jackman, has earned a monstrous $745 million worldwide at the box office.

Singer had been meeting with actors for the past couple of weeks but sources say Isaac always seemed like the type of actor Singer wanted for the role and the long-time favorite from the start.

Isaac is set to have a big year ahead of him with A24′s “A Most Violent Year” set to bow in December, with the company feeling it will have major awards play for Isaac. He is also set to star in the next “Star Wars” pic for Disney.

                • "Ultron Forever" Event To Assemble Time-Traveling Avengers Team

Marvel has announced that Ultron will return to menace a group of Avengers assembled together from across time in a new three-part event. The announcement comes via Hero Complex, which revealed that the event -- "Ultron Forever" -- will span three oversized issues due out next spring.

The story will be told in three parts: "Avengers: Ultron Forever" #1, "New Avengers: Ultron Forever" #2 and "Uncanny Avengers: Ultron Forever" #3. The event will be written by Al Ewing ("Captain America and the Mighty Avengers") and illustrated by Alan Davis ("Savage Hulk"). The event is apparently aimed at introducing new readers to the Avengers villain just in time for the release of Marvel Studios' next film, "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

The Avengers lineup will consist of the present-day Black Widow, Vision, and female Thor; they will be joined by James Rhodes in his Iron Man armor as well as classic versions of the Hulk and Thor. The story will also feature an adult Danielle Cage, the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, as Captain America. Ewing revealed that this particular lineup draws on his own sense of Marvel nostalgia as it includes the versions of Iron Man and Thor that he grew up with.

"Growing up, I didn't particularly care who Tony Stark was -- it was Jim Rhodes, this guy who was with the rest of the superheroes on this little alien planet fighting each other," Ewing said, recounting the events of 1984's "Secret Wars." "So yeah, I do kind of want to have him back in the red and yellow, because it's a nice nostalgic thing for me, and it'll be good for a bunch of readers who remember that whole era."

As she's still a baby in the main Marvel Universe, the grown-up Danielle Cage is the wildcard of the bunch when it comes to reader expectations. "She's very strong, and she's as bulletproof as her mom and dad were," Ewing told Hero Complex. "She has the Captain America shield with an anti-gravity unit in it, which she can sort of control with a unit on her glove. I'm going back to the days of the '60s where, for about five minutes, Captain America worked his shield with magnets. She's not throwing the shield so much as flying it out, and then it ricochets off of people and comes back to her. It's pretty cool."

Doctor Doom's time platform will bring these disparate heroes together 50 years in the future in a timeline where Ultron won. Editor Tom Breevort told Hero Complex that the setting for "Ultron Forever" was briefly glimpsed in "Avengers" #31. "It was a happy accident that [writer] Jonathan [Hickman] had just set that world of the future up, that Ultron-dominated world, because when we were thinking about this, it was sort of low-hanging fruit."

Ewing discussed what it was like writing a fulfilled version of Ultron rather than the power-hungry version we've seen in the past. "He's achieved all his goals, and he's kind of become this godlike figure," said Ewing. "It's almost like humanity is just this resource for him now, but at the same time, he's enjoying lording it over them."

"Ultron Forever" will be released in April and May of 2015.

                        • OFFICIAL "FANTASTIC FOUR" FILM SYNOPSIS RESEMBLES "ULTIMATE" ORIGIN
THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. (C) Fox
Evangeline Lilly Tried To Quit Acting, But Acting Would Not Quit Her
“Initially, I was like, no way. No way.” Lilly starts laughing. “And then they said, ‘Paul Rudd’s playing the lead.’ And I was like, ‘Oh shit. I love Paul Rudd. I really want to work with him!’ So I was like, ‘OK, well, send me the script. I’ll read it and I’ll consider it.’ And then I started watching Marvel [Studios] movies, which I hadn’t done before. … I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to movies — like, the popcorn-munching movies, I never go see them. I was pleasantly surprised.” Lilly especially admired how carefully Marvel Studios had built an integrated cinematic world out of seemingly disparate superhero stories. “I thought, these are actually incredible — they’re making fantastic films.”

Lilly also pored over as much of the Ant-Man comic book lore as she could find before agreeing to the film. She learned that the original titular hero was inventor Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who was married to Janet Van Dyne — also known as fan favorite superhero Wasp. She learned that the Ant-Man suit was later passed down to Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), and that her prospective character — Hope Van Dyne — was Janet and Hank’s daughter. And she learned that fans take all of this very seriously. “I thought Edgar’s idea to blend the [Hank and Scott] stories was brilliant,” she says. “You’re going to have fans up there who insist that you tell the story of Hank Pym, and fans up there who will be more on the Scott Lang side of it. … I think we are going to come close to pleasing them all. And what’s cool is that, you know, Janet Van Dyne is my mom. Hank Pym is my father. I was raised by two superheroes. I’m no schlump. I’m a pretty smart, competent, capable, kick-ass female. She’s very cool.”

And then last May, Wright abruptly left Ant-Man, mere weeks before the film was due to start production. In a joint statement, the filmmaker and Marvel Studios cited “differences in their vision of the film,” but Lilly was not satisfied with that explanation.

“[I was] shocked,” she says. “And mortified, at first. Actually, I wouldn’t say mortified. You know, a creative project is a moving target. You never end up where you start. But we all, I think, signed on very enthusiastically with Edgar. We were excited to work with Edgar. We were fans of Edgar. So when the split happened, I was in the fortunate position where I had not signed my contract yet. So I had the choice to walk away, and I almost did. Because I thought, Well, if it’s because Marvel are big bullies, and they just want a puppet and not someone with a vision, I’m not interested in being in this movie. Which is what I was afraid of.”

So she waited, and politely insisted that she would not sign her contract until she could read the new script that she understood was the crux of the divide between Wright and Marvel Studios. “I finally got the script literally the day before I was supposed to go in for fittings,” she said. “I said, ‘I’m not going to do my fitting until I see the script.’”

Once she finally could read the new Ant-Man script, Lilly found her own writer’s affinity for world creation informing her appreciation for why Marvel and Wright had to part ways. “I saw with my own eyes that Marvel had just pulled the script into their world,” she says. “I mean, they’ve established a universe, and everyone has come to expect a certain aesthetic [and] a certain feel for Marvel films. And what Edgar was creating was much more in the Edgar Wright camp of films. They were very different. And I feel like, if [Marvel] had created Edgar’s incredible vision — which would have been, like, classic comic book — it would have been such a riot to film [and] it would have been so much fun to watch. [But] it wouldn’t have fit in the Marvel Universe. It would have stuck out like a sore thumb, no matter how good it was. It just would have taken you away from this cohesive universe they’re trying to create. And therefore it ruins the suspended disbelief that they’ve built.”

After a successful meeting with Wright’s replacement, Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Down With Love), Lilly says, “I signed on and I never looked back.”
