UGH. Retcons are disgusting. Retcons to sync up with a movie franchise is just disgustingly shameful.

Yeah and the sad thing is very few movie fans pick up the comics after seeing the movies.

Of which I am quite aware. He is still a nerd, and while it may not be the glasses-with-tape and pocket protector of yesteryear, the guy has a brain, and he didn't stick up for himself or others before becoming Spider-Man. If you want to do an origin story set in high school, follow the layout from half a century ago, because it still works today.

Setting it with him already spidered-up and even as an established adult and superhero, I'm fine with that, but don't write him as a rejected goon from Flash Thompson's gang, and don't devalue his intellect by having him copy-paste his dad's achievements or buy his webbing and shooters pre-made by his enemies.

but see, this isnt THAT Peter Parker; the Ultimate -books gave us a Peter that wasnt so much the social outcast nerd, inasmuch as a geek who actually HAD a friend or two. if U *prefer* that archtype for the movies, I can dig it, but by no means is that the only WORKING formula Hollywood has to work with, nor should it be (I wouldnt really be interested if they made him a popular jock to be fair, but i just dont think he NEEDS TO BE that mousy shut-in.)

theres some things which I think are necessary to be faithful to the character, like letting us see how intelligent he really is & how deeply the death of Unc. Ben affected him, but his being socially accepted or not isnt something Id put in that category....... edit- I DO completely agree w/ya on the issue of his genius & tech-capability, however.

If you're referring to Wiccan and Speed, no, they weren't shown as having been affected, although it's been said that they aren't blood-related to Scarlet Witch, just their spiritual essences are remnants of her lost sons.
