  • The Flash #11

I did a search and couldn't find any threads on this, but I know there used to be. Did anyone read #11 yesterday?

It was ok, but the last page confused the shit out of me. What, why, how the fuck did that kid turn out to be Thawne? I thought he was going to end up being a Bart doppelganger, which would have explained why Hot Pursuit was after he real Bart for being an anomaly.

Him hiding as a kid explains why all those people were drained of years of their life. Thawne stole them from them.

My favorite part of the issue was the "intervention" Barry's family staged. Some really nice moments there, especially with Bart. It's gotta be a pain in the ass writing around time traveling descendants, while not making your protagonist look like a grandpa. This is a nice way to start dealing with that. I actually hope Johns doesn't rush through it TOO fast. There's some mileage to be gained out of this one.

And it ties back into what he said during Rebirth about the Speed Force's manipulation of aging.

but HOW? In a book where Johns is constantly trying to explain every little thing, I don't like the idea of just accepting Thawne having the ability to de-age people willingly when it was JUST previously established that its just the effects of the Speed Force....Inconsistent writing is not good writing. And it doesn't explaining the hiding at all. He still has super speed so even if he had JUST killed that little girl, there's no way he couldn't have gotten away then...or any other moment following except Johns wanted Patty in the room with him and though it meant countless pointless hours of time, Thawne was going to kill useless Patty from Keystone...

I thought the idea of the intervention before I turned the page to actually read it was great. But the dialogue used was horrible. "Barry Allen. Barry Allen. Barry Allen" That's not how people talk, and if that was their excuse for catching new readers up on these characters then they did a horrible job with that as well. Because as far as new readers as concerned, they still don't have an idea who Wally is or how Jay's speed works. How is Barry Allen generating the Speed Force when he was born after and given his power after Jay but Jay's speed still derives from Barry? How does the Speed Force continue when Barry died?

All in all, just a bad issue that frustrated me more than intrigued me. The best part about it was that Johns actually brought Patty in to be a love interest. I still think Johns is just using her to make Barry seem perfect but the weird romantic vibes I got from her last issue were confirmed this issue so that's the most interesting thing here. Bart being the anomaly doesn't sit well with me because its such a copout. He's been here for too long for it to be a problem now. It wasn't the countless Legion of Superheroes appearances that disrupted the timeline but Bart being here...now? Not the most creative thing in the world. And if Bart's not the anomaly(which I hope is the case), it just makes Hot Pursuit look bad as a desperate "hero" who can't do the job.

So Thawne has found a way to use a horrible idea of making people younger by the use of his speed, on himself and others...? If that's the case, and he was already older, why would bother going so young? Why wouldn't just balance them out like it seemingly naturally does anyway? It made absolutely no sense for him to be a child. If he wanted to de-age himself, why would he instantly be a child? Why would bother going to the police station? Don't say he wasn't able to control the aging process, because if that was the case then why would he be able to just spring back into an older man? A bunch of questions that I'm sure WON'T be answered the next issue.

And how did Krona get from the Worldsoul of Earth-1 to Ryut in Earth-0/New Earth?

                Oh. Wrong thread, sorry.

I enjoyed that too. But what I'm hoping for, at least what it makes me look forward to seeing is, Barry and Bart bond. I don't want to keep seeing Bart whine about Barry, even if he is being a douche towards him. Isn't that how things were between Wally and Bart at first too?

Wally didnt like Bart because he was Bart not because he felt old. Barry hasn't even spent enough time ANYONE for Bart to be this upset. Also, I'd love it if we got some consistency with his hair...

                          Yo.

I can dig why Barrys avoided Bart for so long; its pretty obvious really. but wat Im waiting to see is how he explains Thawne stealing TIME with SPEED..........

HAHAHA! I was thinking the same thing when reading the intervention scene.

I assume there's a lot more to come as to how Thawne did it (not to mention why). He said something about having done it to unlock other hidden powers. This issue was just the reveal, we'll get the details, ie what Johns pulled out of his thin air, next issue.
