  • So what are y'alls favorite Superman stories? My top five would be:

    1) All Star Superman
    2) Superman: Secret Identity
    3) Kingdom Come (I consider it to be a Supes story)
    4) Superman: Red Son
    5) Superman: Last Son

I liked everything on that list except Earth One. Thought it was kinda so so.

Superman: Secret Identity is a story I recommend to everyone. It's an Elseworlds take on Superboy-Prime by Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen, really good stuff. Sadly it's outta print now so it's kinda hard to find.

          2) All Star Superman
          3) For the Man who has Everything
          4) Superman: Birthright
          5) Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

Birthright is under-rated as hell I feel. Red Son is great but the last few pages totally ruin it for me.

I never really got all the love Birthright seems to get, I'm not saying its a bad story but after hearing everyone rave about it I went in expecting something amazing. Of course I've never felt that any of the Superman origin stories were that great, certainly nothing on the level of Batman: Year One, so maybe I'm just biased.

I think it gives Lex a real reason to be the total asshole he is. Also gives Clark a reason never to give up on him. The art is fantastic and I liked how they made an effort to explain why no-one sees Superman when they look at Clark, we also see him pay a price for maintaining his cover. To me it Waid obviously wrote it with a lot of genuine affection rather than fanboy slavishness.

                      • Has Morales done anything noteworthy as of late? The only thing I can remember him being on is Identity Crisis...

He did that First Wave series with Azz. That's the last "big" thing I remember him on.

What is Clusterfuck Prime doing on that cover? And what do Bane, Amazons Attack and Parallax have to do with the 80s?
