The Third Army may not be individuals, but I'd still say they count as villains in much the same was Parademons or the Manhunters do.

I don't see why Volthoom wouldn't count as "from scratch". All Volthoom has ever been is a name of some dude we never meet properly from another universe.

I didn't mention Larfleeze or Atrocitus because I'm unsure if they count as proper Green Lantern villains. They were introduced as villains, but they've fought alongside the GLs more than against, haven't they? The Red Lanterns don't even seem to want to kill the Greens as part of their current agenda.

Hell, Venom has his own title more often than not and he's technically a villain. Fuck it, they're villains simply for having "evil" colors on that lame little emotional spectrum. EVIL I say!

I agree about Volthoom. It's just using a name nobody was doing anything with and running with it. Johns has the chance to do something not as lame as I originally thought.

Attrocitus doesn't count. He was one of the Five Inversions. That whole story line is cribbed from Moore and Gibbons. And Gibbons was working on the GL titles during the whole Sinestro War period so I'm not giving Tomasi and Johns much "original idea" credit for any ideas spinning out of that either.

The PrEvent is almost done! Now we can get into the Event next issue. I wonder if it'll be another lackluster ending of someone going super saiyan and one punching/shooting the villain like always.

I don't mind Baz's story too much, just as long as once it's done, it stays done and they don't drag it around. Or hey, after the First Lantern start dragging the plot then, so the other titles can actually have a chance to write their own stories. I would like to add that having it Volthoom is actually interesting.

Though different note, I would like to see a multiEarth crossover now with Volthoom and Starheart teaming up to cause chaos/destruction.

Oh come now. Atrocitus was not in that story, and the "Five Inversions" were not even established as a group of five indivduals in that story (I know I never saw it as one when I read it), but rather just an odd, mystical, obscure title for Qull to tack on his name. That story was the starting point, to be sure, but Atrocitus and the Inversions as Johns envisioned them owe very little to anything established in that story.

The Five Inversions was just an abstract concept in the 1980s, IIRC.

I can't believe I've been reading GL longer than most of you have been alive, yet I've never heard of Volthoom. I had to do some Wiki research to see who the hell that is.

About Baz, the issue is he replaced our favorite resident Earth GL. Even worse, we're being force-fed his story in Hal's book. It was bad enough that Hal had to share the spotlight with Sinestro when this N52 crap started. Baz should have been given his own title, or at the very least, shared time in GLC or NG.

I was ok with the death of my DC Universe when the DCnU52 rebooted last year. So long as they continued to tell good stories. But they aren't, and now I'm sad on both accounts.

I gave it a chance for the last year and kept reading many titles. The more time went on, the less titles I continued to read. Now it's down to 2 or 3.

Congratulations DC, you will never earn another penny from me or mine. Kudos for not caring about any of your loyal readers and fans. Out with the old, in with the new for a few weeks or months to make a quick buck, then onto the next suckers....

I'm beginning to feel the same way. Might just go the TPB route, but I don't know. I'm notoriously indecisive when it comes to this stuff.

I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to turn in my power ring just yet. But I'm getting very, very close. We'll see.

Of course there's the download option. Get my cake and eat it too that way.

not exactly; that only holds true if it were the same person under the mask (which it aint), and if the original Venom were simply a criminal instead of a gestalt with a grudge against 1 person.......which he was.

dude, U mean ya didnt read JLA? some of the best feats (as well as the intro of the Manhunters iirc, which was a pretty kewl story) by a GL were in that title, mostly during the satellite -era (IMNSHO)......

hell, Id recommend back-ish diving for just about everything from v1 #140 all the way up to #200 personally (U'd hafta go back much further for the Volthoom/CSA stuff Im sure U now realize), cuz say wat ya want about Morrisons run on the book (which was good), but his work *pales* compared to THAT run 20yrs earlier as far as Im concerned.

Yeah, I've been reading GL for decades as well and didn't recognize the name. I knew of Power Ring vaguely but not the backstory.

I knew of Volthoom and had to re-look up Power Ring about it and I love Power Ring so this is going to be awesome. I wonder if this might lead to something like Power Ring maybe his own corps or something.

The last thing Green Lantern needs is another person with their own Corps.
I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.
