I'm sure it's true. It would be a bizarre thing to claim if it wasn't. But I find it kind of hard to believe that Johns (who doesn't look remotely Arab, doesn't have a name that would so identify him, and, so far as I know, isn't actually a practicing Muslim) could POSSIBLY have had experiences that would allow him to really identify personally with the character he is writing.

Anything's possible, I guess, but I'm having a hard time picturing Geoff Johns ever being the target of racial profiling, or anti-Arab/anti-Muslim backlash.

Yeah, it was a stretch. I read his bio when the story broke and basically one of his grandmothers is Libyan. I'm not even sure she was fully, 1st gen Libyan but basically he's 1/4 or less Libyan. And no, he wasn't/isn't a practicing Muslim.

I don't mind Baz, probably because I never liked Jordan to begin with. I can sympathize with Guy and Stewart, not Hal.

Besides, I am curious to how Baz will stand up to his potential, the beginning of a hero's journey and duty is always the hardest.

Somebody in the Webmaster's hip pocket goofed.

Agree with y'all above. Baz has got to go. Especially after events of the last week. Rings, not guns.

Libyan, or Lebanese Maronite Christian? Not all folks from the Middle East by birth or heritage are Islamic. Jamie "Klinger" Farr and Tony "Monk" Shalhoub, to name two.

I haven't read the issue yet but I'll go with what Dave said.

Can he just go write Simon in his own book? We want Hal back already.

You're right, Lebanese. Sorry, I'm usually more careful with that kind of thing.
But that part of the family was Muslim. He just wasn't himself.

I don't have a problem with Simon or the lack of Hal. I enjoy the story and concepts being explored here. Maybe it's because outside of a few issues in Vol. 3, I did not become a real fan until Vol. 4. That being said, if it was Kyle or John in the same position as Hal in this story it would still read the same to me and I would enjoy it. And most importantly not judge it before I read the book. Gotta have an open mind sometimes.

I understand about having an open mind but I buy the book for my favorite character, Hal Jordan, I buy most books for the character not the story. I prefer a good story with my favorite characters over a bad one but still (I bought Reign in Hell). Anyways I know a lot of fans just want Hal back and also not let the story get sidetracked by a brand new character.

Because honestly after the Annual the one storyline that should have had the least amount of screen time is getting the most (The New GL), The story should be about The Guardians plans/Third Army, Black Hand being stuck with the other Guardians, Hal and Sinestro in the Dead Zone before we even get Simon.

For what it's worth, all of our opinions count to me. If you're enjoying the direction of GL more power to you. Please ignore the cranky pissed off fanboy in the corner. I just like to fling my poo at the nurses.
