  • Some origin questions.....

I know there are no answers to these questions.... BUT....

Now that we have a "condensed" timeline and everything (except Batman) must have taken place in a 5 year crunch....

I would REALLY like to know the following things.

When and how did John Stewart get his ring?
When and how did Guy Gardener get his ring?
When and how (if she ever lived) did Katma Tui die?
When and how did Hal Jordan go bonkers and destroy the GLC?
How big was the GLC at that point?
Was it just being reformed after the PREVIOUS time the Guardians left it?
When and how did Kyle Rayner get his ring?

I know that none of these answers should really "matter" according to Grant Morrison and Iggy.... but I'm curious.

I'm going on that everything happened in similar form and fashion just with less time in between events until it's in print any different. Instead of Kyle having 4-5 years experience, now that Hal's a vet with only about 5 years under his belt, Kyle would have closer to two.

OK... but if Hard Traveling Heroes never happened then what was The Long Road Back based around if it happened at all?

If the Guardians left at the end of some event (previously known as Crisis on Infinite Earths) then did they come back and start rebuilding the Corps?
        How long did that take?
How long was Hal Jordan the only Green Lantern of Earth after beating Guy in a fist fight?
        Did Mosaic happen?
If not what was John Stewart doing during that period of time?

I just got off the phone with Geoff so here goes.

Monday the 17th, Hal gave him one.
Wednesday the 19th, Hal gave him one.
Thursday the 20th, Superboy Prime punch.
Saturday the 29th, it was a rough week-Superman died/had a funeral/four guys took his place/Coast City was destroyed/Superman came back from the dead.
          15 characters.
          Yes
Sunday the 30th, Ganthet gave him the "last" one.

            Screw that...I'm answering them!

When and how did John Stewart get his ring?
Probably right after he left the marines, and he never was an architect now. The Guardians hand picked him to replace Hal during the Crisis. Unfortunately, he never had the amazing afro.

When and how did Guy Gardener get his ring?
He was Hal's alternate when he first started, but didn't become a GL until the Crisis, which I guess was about 3 years ago, and 2 years into Hal's career. And he was always an asshole. He was only in a coma for 12 hours, not 3 years.

When and how (if she ever lived) did Katma Tui die?
What's a Katma Tui? That some kind of chinese food?

When and how did Hal Jordan go bonkers and destroy the GLC?
Bonkers? 2 years ago. Destroy the corps? Never happened. Oa was never destroyed either. He never killed Kilowog either, who now had never died.

How big was the GLC at that point?
I'm guessing the FIRST time the Corps was destroyed (GL #224) never happened, so they must have been at full strength (7,200 of course!). They just went home. None of them died.

Was it just being reformed after the PREVIOUS time the Guardians left it?
The Guardians NEVER left! They also always had females in their ranks. And were never banging the Zamarons. Oh, and they were ALWAYS 12 members strong. 12 of the little blue fuckers for BILLIONS of years...until the last year or so when they started getting picked off one by one.

When and how did Kyle Rayner get his ring?
I think he was given one by Ganthet as he was leaving the Blue Oyster Club. True story!

Retconning John not being an architect would change the way he makes his constructs. They used to say because he was an architect he made them inside out as if he was actually building. Changing that time in his life, well, sucks.

They've already changed his constructs. Lately they are ALL military related (well maybe not ALL, I didn't do a comprehensive survey, but at least most), because apparently being a Marine was THE defining element of his entire life, even more so than being a GL it sometimes seems...

Yep. Everytime John makes a construct lately, it's a rifle or some military weapon. Kiss his architect days goodbye. The good news is we can probably get rid of his days as a Darkstar, a Guardian, and being crippled twice. Xanshi oughtta go too.

Here's another one: Who trained Guy Gardner?

This question has never been answered pre or post Crisis. Back in the day, the "gang of six" just gave him a ring and he got the hang of it. The previous time he held the ring when he ended up in the coma was only for about a day or so and couldn't have helped him much. The second time he headed right into the Crisis and there was no time for training.

Now in the comics, GLs all must get lengthy and formal training because being a ringbearer is so difficult. So why hasn't Guy's past been Geoffconned yet?

It was the Heretic Club. And don't forget he was rocking a NIN shirt, the 90's leather jacket can be Geoffconned though....

I know that every construct lately has been military related, but it was the way the construct was made that they said was because of him being an architect. Like if he made a gun, it wasn't just a gun, there it is. But, you could see the different pieces needed to make a functional gun being put together.

Whereas with Kyle it was like the construct was being drawn into existence.

Guy's ring was constantly sparking with power because that's how Guy acted.

Kilowog's ring was the only ring that made a sound when it formed a construct.

Granted I'm going on the Rebirth story so they may have forgotten all about that stuff.

I'm guessing that none of these questions will be definitively answered. We'll be lucky if they're even addressed, but I guess we'll find out when GLC #1 and GLNG #1 hit stands.
