That was Dawly, not Krona. Dawly, his wife, and their kids were trying to stop Krona's experiments.

Is Krona absolutely confirmed to be in the new film, or is it still just rumor?

Krona is in the movie, pretty sure that's been confirmed.

I guess then the movie version of Krona will be be a hybrid of Krona and Dawly. Which is fine by me.

Maybe they won't use either story, as it's too complicated. Movie Krona will just be a bad guy.

I definitely know that he'll be a "fallen Guardian", which is evident in the pic of Hal and Sinestro standing in the middle of the guardian's towers, one of them is toppled. I'm fairly certain they're including Krona's crime, but I don't think I've personally heard confirmation of that yet. But I'm sure it'll be more than just "he's a bad guy"

"Kick-Ass" Director takes shot at 'GREEN LANTERN'

The LA Times have just released a set report from the still filming 'X-Men: First Class' set. In which they get a couple of choice quotes that are aimed at Green Lantern and other summer blockbuster competition from director Matthew Vaughn. Read the quote below:

“With ‘Green Lantern,’ I don’t know about that one, I couldn’t get my head around the trailer, to be honest … look, I will say the following: X-Men as a brand is bigger than Captain America, Thor and the Green Lantern, all put together.”

I think its safe to say that a certain director is feeling the pressure from FOX to compete with the hype surrounding this insane upcoming summer. Let loose lanterns. Remember this summer to vote with your dollar. Its perfectly fine to watch 'THOR' or 'X-Men: First Class', just wait 3 weeks.

fox is making First Class to keep the license from falling back to Disney, no one cares honestly noone... go to your LCS on Wed and say "what comic movies are coming out this year?" and you'll get "Thor, Green Lantern, and Captain America" and maybe "...is Avengers this year?" but everyone forgets about this Xmen movie. I liked the first three there is no reason to re-boot at this time. and why not have the actual first class if there is? see the end of Wolverine for "the first class"

Or if you can't wait. Find a time when GL and Thor/X-men are playing at the same time and buy the GL ticket.
