  • GL a Comedy? Would it have done better?

So here is a scary question. Would Green Lantern have a better chance at mass apeal as a comedy? Remember how we Shuddered at this idea when it was pitched?

A comedy probably would have cost the WB way less money to make thus making it crazy easy to make a profit. In hind sight would that have been a better move?

I still stand by the Jack Black thing being awful, and should be forgotten. But Could a action Cartoon aimed at kids work, think Ninja Turtles. It has alot of funny cute moments, but still has fights andremain serious enough that it is still considered a action cartoon.

    What are your thoughts?

I don't really care whether a GL would have had more success as a comedy. I would rather have Gl fail as an action movie than succeed as a comedy. Because how would it profit the fans to have a GL comedy movie succeed? All that would lead to is more comedy GL.

In a worst case scenario, that would actually filter into the comics. I like G'nort probably MORE than the next guy, but I wouldn't want comedy to come anywhere NEAR being what GL was primarily KNOWN for.

IF they made GL a comedy be it cartoon or movie I would never watch and I would never tune into anything GL related ever again, including cartoons/movies like Justice League where a GL is a member of the team.

"Action Comedy". Not like say Sponge Bob,or even the super bizarre Adventure time. Think GLTAS,but Hal beeing a little more of a smart ass. More of Guy being the brain damaged 14 year old in a grown man's body. That many of us loved to hate.

I am not saying they should have done the movie as a comedy, I am just asking if maybe that would be a better avenue for furture Cartoons?

I do agree though, you have to be carful because sometimes Movies and TV spill into the comics. Would it not be nice if that worked the other way though?

They should just make this into a comedy cartoon series instead of the Teen Titans go.

I hated the initial idea of Jack Black playing Green Lantern. GL as a comedy probably would have done better at the box office, but Hal wouldn't be taken seriously as a bona fide superhero along the same lines as Superman and Batman (even though he already isn't because of the poor performance in theaters). In addition, when it comes to the JL movie, he probably wouldn't even be considered.

The only way I could have been behind this idea is if it was done like a Pixar film. Like The Incredibles. Animated, action comedy. Anything more than that would have been a trainwreck for the fans and the franchise in the long run.

Well it wouldn’t have done that much worse than the actual film did for the franchise.

                          That much I can say.

Are they still doing that Lego Batman Superman movie on the big screen? I wonder what kind of tone they will go with that.

That was never supposed to go on the big screen. It is coming out on DVD.
