  • The Official Movie Apology Thread

Since day 1, fanboys have been trying to ruin the Green Lantern movie.

Whining about the choice of Ryan Reynolds...
Prejudging the decision to use CGI for the suit...
    Bashing the teaser trailer...
Unfounded claims of production problems and delays...

What is wrong with you people?

I mean, seriously... how long have you been waiting for this film? Now, its nearly here, and instead of appreciating the hard work going into this project, all you can do is complain.

    Here's the punch line.

The film is going to be great, and you will all have to apologize for your premature condemnation.

But, before that happens, you have one chance to make it right.

Apologize now, and all will be forgiven.

Most of you will scoff at this, and probably rip me for starting this thread.

That's fine. I have a thick skin, and a good memory.

When those of you trying to tear down the film change your tune in June, I will be there to expose you for the phonies you are.

So apologize now... its not to late.

Well Geoff, I was always in support. I reserve judgment for the film.

Reserve judgment all you want... if you are among the premature detractors, you will be exposed for what you are.

Unless you're mentally challenged, "whining" is not "trying to ruin". Nobody's enjoyment of the movie will be any smaller because some guy on an internet message board whined about any particular detail.

Whining about the choice of Ryan Reynolds...
I don't mind him as Hal. I do think there are actors better suited for the part, and I think that there are DCU characters better suited for Ryan Reynolds. I don't think I ever whined, though.

Prejudging the decision to use CGI for the suit...
I like the fact that the suit looks fake. Since it is a ring creation, after all. What I don't like is the CGI for the Alien Lanterns, I would have preferred 100% prosthetics and animatronics for them, to have a clear sense of what is material and what is ring-created. Again, I don't whine about it.

          Bashing the teaser trailer...
I think that they either chose Blake Lively's worst line in the movie to use in the trailer, or that she just isn't a very good actress. Time will tell. I don't see what's wrong with basing our opinion of the movie on the material that Warner chose to give us in order for us to base our opinion of the movie on.

Unfounded claims of production problems and delays...
I never understood stuff like that. But again, saying that the production is delayed doesn't actively delay it. So I don't see what anyone trying to "ruin the movie" (which is still a rather outlandish concept in itself) is gaining from false rumors.

What is wrong with you people?

Now that's a narrow view of things. The debate I've seen on these boards has been a very balanced one. Some people liked one detail and disliked another. Others see things the other way around. I haven't found anyone complaining about every single bit of information known, and you're probably the first guy who praises every little detail (while condemning everyone who disagrees with you).

          Here's the punch line.

The film is going to be great
Possible. Even likely. But you can't really say for sure. The teasers for Emmerich's Godzilla were awesome. The end result? Meh. It's still completely possible that the film will be an enormous disappointment. I don't think it will, but to ignore the possibility seems like pointless fanatism.

and you will all have to apologize for your premature condemnation.
No. Nobody will have to apologize for anything.

But, before that happens, you have one chance to make it right.

Apologize now, and all will be forgiven.
Are you trying to create a new religion based on the subjectively perceived quality of a superhero movie? Good luck with that.

Most of you will scoff at this, and probably rip me for starting this thread.
Rip you? Don't overestimate your own importance, or the value of threads you create.

That's fine. I have a thick skin, and a good memory.
          Ooooooh. I'm shaking.

When those of you trying to tear down the film change your tune in June, I will be there to expose you for the phonies you are.
You really do believe you're the second coming of Christ, aren't you? The air up there must be thin.

So apologize now... its not to late.

Wow, you did a fine job of totally missing my point.

The problem with fanboys is not that they will SUCEED in ruining the movie but, rather, that they WILL TRY to ruin it if its not done exactly how they would do it.

I don't mind him as Hal. I do think there are actors better suited for the part, and I think that there are DCU characters better suited for Ryan Reynolds. I don't think I ever whined, though.
So, you automatically assume that everything in this thread was directed specifically at you? I think I see your problem here.

In this context "whining" means acting as though you know better despite the fact that you have ZERO experience working on a big-budget film. So... yeah... you kind of do come across as whiney.

I think that they either chose Blake Lively's worst line in the movie to use in the trailer, or that she just isn't a very good actress. Time will tell. Two problems here: (1) people like you assume that all reasonable people will agree with you, and (2) you lack patience.

I never understood stuff like that. But again, saying that the production is delayed doesn't actively delay it. So I don't see what anyone trying to "ruin the movie" (which is still a rather outlandish concept in itself) is gaining from false rumors.
All I know is that there are far too many people who seem to want to throw out there the nonsense equation of TSUNAMI IN JAPAN + NO TRAILER WITH SUCKER PUNCH = GL MOVIE DELAYED UNTIL DECEMBER.

If the debate here was balanced, I never would have registered and started this thread.

Possible. Even likely. But you can't really say for sure. The teasers for Emmerich's Godzilla were awesome. The end result? Meh. When I say it will be a very good film, I'm not merely making a prediction.

No. Nobody will have to apologize for anything.
            I'm sure YOU won't.

Are you trying to create a new religion based on the subjectively perceived quality of a superhero movie? Good luck with that.
What an odd interpretation of my post.

Rip you? Don't overestimate your own importance, or the value of threads you create.
You're right. Clearly, my thread was not even worth your time to respond. Wait a second...

            Ooooooh. I'm shaking.
No need to shake. There's no threat here.

You really do believe you're the second coming of Christ, aren't you? The air up there must be thin.
You presume that I believe that Christ has come once before.

You know, if you fanboys have any intention of shedding that "uber-geek" label most of you carry, you might want to cut down on these "inside joke" posts. I know you think it makes you look really cool but, I can assure you, the opposite is true.

                  Just a helpful suggestion.

Yes you are. You haven't seen any more than we have so your opinion is based on the same material. I am worried that I'll be let down by the film because the trailer makes it look like Iron Man 2 with a green tinted lens and I thought Iron Man 2 was lame.

I'm not saying the film will be bad because of that but it raises my doubts. This could just be a marketing failure like the one Scott Pilgrim vs the World suffered but it's enough.

Also people's doubts are very reasonable since trailers are only semi reliable. The trailer for The Phantom Menace made it look like it was going to be great. It wasn't. Also lets remember that there are a lot of mediocre superhero movies that have been made over the last 10 years. For every Dark Knight we got we had 3 or 4 Ghost Rider's, Fantastic 4's and The Spirit's to remind us that just because we like the source material doesn't mean that it will be treated well. Just because we are fans doesn't mean we have to like everything that is fed to us under the brand name. I as a Superman fan do not have to like Superman 3 or 4.

I'm far more excited by the upcoming Superman film because the announced cast and Nolan's involvement suggest it will be good. the only weak link is the director which is a shame cause that's a hell of a weak link to have.

I am yet to see anything related to GL that suggests it will be anything more that the copy/paste superhero format that's been kicking about for a while. I think it has the potential to be good but from all I can see it looks like it'll be mediocre at best.

Final point. Who the hell are you to demand apology from us.

So that means that, if you are among those who didn't like the GL trailer, you shouldn't worry too much, as trailers don't tell us everything.

I am yet to see anything related to GL that suggests it will be anything more that the copy/paste superhero format that's been kicking about for a while.
But think about how much you HAVE NOT yet seen. You've seen 1 construct, a mere glimpse of Sinestro, and little more than some artwork relating to Parallax. And yet your'e willing to label the film as a copy/paste movie.

Final point. Who the hell are you to demand apology from us.
I've demanded nothing. I've merely provided an opportunity.

Interesting that you would bring that up here. The difference is that Superman Returns was the 5th Superman movie. As such, its biggest failing (apart from "Superman, Jr.") was that it didn't show us anything new. Lex and kryptonite again? Really?

There is so much in GL that you've never seen on the big screen. That alone is cause for enthusiastic anticipation.
