  • To all the Kyle fans..

I'm curious did you start from the green lantern title starring hal then just went with the flow and continued with kyle becoming a green lantern, or did you hear from word of mouth about kyle and jumped on during his run.

For me I been a green lantern fan since the late 70's and I took it in stride when kyle debuted. And I enjoyed every single issue.

I loved Hal, but after a while I excepted Kyle, and now I like all the GLs for different reasons, like at first I couldnt stand John and then after a while I just started liking him for some reason, same with Guy. So yeah I just went with the flow and read kyles run even after the loss of Hal!!!

    So....

I started reading with the downfall of Hal. Seemed like a great idea that we hadn't seen before. Stuck around cause Kyle kicked ass.

I started back in the 80's so Kyle wasn't even a thought then, then I didn't read for some years and jumped back on with Kyle, Always just loved GL, no matter who it was.

I started reading GL then as well, and while I didnt read ACW (Action Comics Weekly, which is Hal where he ended up after GLC got canned) I jumped right back in on vol. 3 of the franchise when it re-started and kept reading right thru ET......but having to deal with "young n00b gets a GL Ring" after having lived thru the days of the Corps just didnt cut it and I quit maybe a year or 2 b4 the Ion -storyline came out.

I did get some of the Action issues, I lucked out When I started collecting, my sister had a friend who use to come over and he always said he'd give me some comics, and one day he did. it had to be about 500 books, and it was good stuff, 70s and 80s, I remember the original issues of the dark phoenix saga. It was great, i was hooked, It was x-mas eve when he gave them to me, and i stayed in my room all night reading and looking at the art work.

Growing up in the late 70s through the 80s, I had always known about Hal, through Superfriends and what have you, but I could never get into the character when I would pick up the issues.

When I first heard about Hal turning bad and being replaced with a young new guy, I was upset even though I hadn't bought more than a couple of Hal's issues for over a decade. I actually had my first exposure to Kyle in Final Night. It was strange, though...I liked what I saw and decided to give him a chance in GL and JLA. I've been an addict ever since.

I was 10, I was reading the Death of Superman, Funeral for a Friend, World Without Superman, Reign of the Supermen, and finally the Return of Superman... which had the tie in issue to Green Lantern. I was shocked that a heroes entire home town was blowed the hell up I decided to keep reading to see where that would go.

I was surprised, but when they introduced a new GL at issue 50 I thought in my 10 year old mind. "Sweet a character I can read from the begining and not be confused as to the history" believe me at 10 years old the "Crisis" confused the hell out of me. So I did, and none the less I ended up researching GL history... haven't stopped reading Green Lantern since.

Started with the tie in to the return of Superman (Gl # 46 I think) and then just kept on. I didn't know about the whole Kyle thing so it was a cool surprise and a very welcome one.

For me, Green Lantern was never about Hal, Kyle, John or Guy... it was the universe that came with the character...

the Green Lantern universe is so epic in scale with stories branching back to be beginning of the universe to the far flung future...

i enjoy the Green Lantern stories for the universe, not for the title character, so when i started reading it was Hal in the drivers seat with the full GL Corps behind him, then it went to Kyle and i found the storyline to be just as interesting as we followed a new character finding his feet in the GL universe, now it's back to the full corps, with a few changes, i'm still happy with the storyline...

though i may bitch about one or two things *cough* symbiotes *cough*, but in whole i'm just as happy now with the characters compared to back when i started enjoying the comic...

that said, if it does come down to a choice, i do actually prefer Kyle as a character because he's someone i can relate to over Hal who always comes across as 'Mr Perfect'.

I was first introduced to the GL's in Superfriends, and from there I had read about them bringing in a new guy around the same time Batman's back was broken and Superman was killed. The only issues I remember was vol. 3 #1 I got as a gift, and from then on when I discovered who Kyle was and what he was about I was hooked. However I didn't get the most of my collection until the begining of High School when I started working a construction job....

I was a GL fan since the 1970s Superfriends as a kid. Hal was my favorite on that show. I got hand me down comics from older cousins (only a few GLs though)

In the 1980s and Jr. High I got into comic more as I was old enough to buy. I made a decision to get Marvel only cause of limited money. In High School Crisis drew me in. I was intrigued by the "new guy" John as GL. Was disappointed we saw a whiney powerless Hal for half those issues as I wanted to see what the new guy could do!

Was happy Hal was back...was so so on the GLC on Earth as Englehart's stories were not his strongest work.

ALL STAR SQUADRON introduced me to and his badass self. unlike , actually appeared and mattered in CRISIS, the biggest DC event.

Still remained a GL and Hal fan in the 1990s. Gerad Jones was also hit or miss, but that first story arc was great.

Couldn't stand Guy in the Justice League and thought he didnt belong in the GLC in light of him trying o kill Hal at least twice, and getting the earth GLC DRUNK without their knowledge. Plus...the "tough" GL lost just about every fight he was in.

LOVED when took over. Was shocked Hal became Parallax...but also found him an intriguing and scary villain.

I was Kyle's age at the time and also in the arts. Liked being able to discover teh NEW CHARACTER and remembered how excited I was to see John when I was in high school. I assume this is how 1950s readers felt when Hal was the new guy.

It should be noted, Kyle had some amazing and in my opinion underated ART with Daryl Banks. Heck, Banks drew a fantastic Hal in Emerald Knights, and the body language and the way both these guys flew was a great attention to details.

Kyle was a breath of fresh air.
I didn't think I would be at this point, but I like what Geoff did in bringing Hal and the COrps back.

                          I forgot to add..

Action Comics Weekly was the only era of GL since the mid 1980s I couldnt stand and dropped. Not just for weak Hal stories...but a lot of weak things like the Secret Sucky Six (and it was no secret they sucked), Wilddog (appearing and sucking in Booster Gold this month), and other lame stories.

I started reading with emerald twilight, then read emrald dawn to remind me who just went nuts. Loved Kyle's run and liked Hal as a villian. Stopped reading just after Emrald Knights because I moved out on my own and it was a choice of food or luxuries. I heard of rebirth, so I tracked down all Kyle issues that I missed and Joined back up for Rebirth and I'm stuck again.

And now Geoff has me hooked to JSA, Booster, and even Superman (not usually my cup o' tea)

I get some of the Bat titles but if they make Jason Todd Batman I will drop all Bat Titles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAL 9000 You have the ability to open pod bay doors and cause fear. Welcome to the Sinestro Corps!!

I'm just a few years older than you, but yeah, pretty much that's me as well.
