  • DCnU Kyle History Thread

What we know [or think we know] about several other 2nd and 3rd string characters tells us indeed that much of Kyle's history has been tweaked or removed. What we have so far....

1.) Kyle's relationship with Jade is out the window, as her father and presumably Jade as well will be on a new Earth-2.

2.) Donna Troy thus far is non-existent. However the original founding 5 Teen Titans were still noted as being canon, it could just be more BS from the creators. Kyle's relationship with her is out the window as well as his time/training in the New Titans.

3.) Kyle's time with the Justice League will either be wiped away or compacted into only a few months of his early career. But if Wally never existed in this continuity and J'onn is written as the manipulator of Stormwatch, it's a fair assumption that it's just being written out.

4.) With Kyle's Torchbearer status still coming up it's safe to assume his time as Ion is still canon, even if it's tweaked in areas.

5.) The better parts of Rebirth, Sinestro Corps War, War of Light, and Blackest Night are still canon. However some could be fine tuned in specific areas to compact the timeline. It's a safe bet that Kyle was still an Honor Guard, Parallax, and a Blue Lantern.

6.) Alex is presumably still dead. It's just part of his story, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tweaked the way she was killed to avoid the women in refrigerators jokes....

So... what we have left is rookie Kyle [still trained by Batman in hand to hand if recent GLC is canon and some of his adventures with the JLA characters remains?] eventually hits the big leagues when going Ion. Much of the in-between stuff is still to be determined but for now it's down to the essential material needed for the new stories.

Sadly this is probably the case. I would like to believe that these roles were nonetheless filled by other characters, either existing or unknown. i.e., maybe the new Earth-0 did have a Jennie-Lynn Hayden he dated for a while... she just wasn't Jade.

I don't know that this is true. I don't think anything will arise that will implicitly tell us that Donna Troy doesn't exist or never existed... I just don't think she'll be mentioned for a good while.

I don't think it'll be mentioned but it would still stand in some abbreviated fashion.

Not in areas already retconned (the symbiote, etc.).

I don't see any of that changing.

I don't think any of that will be touched. Maybe not re-referenced in detail, but still happened.

While Martian Manhunter wasn't a founding member in the New 52, there's no reason to assume that he didn't join the team between the "Five Years Ago" storyline and "today". With that being said, the Morrison/Porter run also featured Wally (at a time where Barry was still dead), Connor Hawke, the JSA's Wonder Woman (and later, the rest of the JSA), Triumph (whose sole motivation was his status as a forgotten founding member of the Justice League, a status that doesn't exist anymore) and other tidbits here and there.
Without the robotic Hourman (that couldn't have existed without a JSA), both Rock of Ages and One Million would have to be changed quite a bit, for example. But both storylines could still have happened.

Now of course they won't mention the Morrison League ever again. So we'll never find out what changed, and how it changed. But we still have to assume that the gist of it still happened.

Seems to me that from reading Justice league #1 that Kyle's, John's and Guy's time with the League is being written out. Heck it's showing Hal, Batman and Superman meeting for the first time!!!!!!!!!

Yes. Five years ago. A lot of stuff could have happened in that time. Especially when you consider that Blackest Night and Brightest Day combined didn't last longer than a week in-continuity.

I think the story arc for the new JL ongoing is going to be about the first meeting then move to the "present."

Yeah, Action Comics takes place 6 years ago as Superman was the 1st superhero, and all the other flashbacks like JLA take place 5 years ago, so Superman's had a year to be known by the time the JLA forms.

My guess is Kyle's origin stays the same as far as up to Alan Scott coming to pick him up for Zero Hour right after Kyle nearly kills Major Force. Donna/Jade will probably get addressed in in NG as we flashback here and there. And don't forget, Kyle's guest-staring in Voodoo, and we don't know if that's a flashback or current time for the first arc.

I'd say his career will be shortened to him being a lone GL for roughly a year on Earth and then going to the stars for the rest of the time [probably another 6 months to a year] with a small stay on Earth in-between as Ion 2.0.

I'm pretty excited for New Guardians....

Me either. Kyle can be really awesome when he's written properly.

Kyle got a little bit of a costume change from what I can see from all the covers, his green lantern symbol on his chest is now white instead of green... I don't like it.

I'd say it's just a coloring mistake, I think that goes for Walker's "new" suit too cause you can still see the lines on his wrists where his blue bracers usually end.

I agree with Andrew that Kyle may still have dated a Jennie-Lynn Hayden, no Jade. "Mr Terrific" has a Karen Star, not Power Girl so it does appear that there will be dopplegangers between the main DCU and Earth-2. (I'm still thinking the reintroduced JSA will have Superman and Wonder Woman - that's how they'll keep those classic costumes alive)

i always thought that BN was like Sin. war only lasting 2 days or so, thanks to GL#1 we know BN and War of the GLC took 3 months

That might be cool. I was always baffled by the creators taking away Jenny's ability to look normal when not using her powers. But it would kinda be insulting to some fans I'm sure. I'd rather them just not go into it. They could take us all for a ride and have Alex still be alive, or possibly killed and her murder be an unsolved case? IDK, but here's still hoping we get Ion sooner than later.

And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Karen was still Power Girl later on.... they kinda left it open. I mean she still looked more built than 90% of women.
