Sucks he had to be the one to this time literally blow Mogo up, but no one else had any better ideas, certainly not that girl Kyle, and HJ and GG were tied up(no pun intened), so JS took it upon himself to do what he felt was right to save the corps. Mogo will be back anyway somehow

          ure there was another way...
Kyle could severe the Parallax connection on several GL then he would power up their rings and they could "purge" the black out of Mogo so Kyle could "cure" him

but John did want to listen!!

Not even when Kyle wanted to "restart" Mogo's Core

Just from an editorial standpoint I think Mogo had to go. I love Mogo because he was a very unique and integral part of the GLC, but from a story standpoint, he had to go. He's basically a deus ex machina for the GLC. Problem gets too big? Call Mogo. Heck he sucked up the Black Lanterns by himself.

If anyone else saw the Emerald Knights movie they released before the GL movie, Mogo shows up at the end to save the day. Mogo was a fantastic character, but you can't have something like him floating around to clean up messes all the time.

Even with Mogo "Gone" the sector has another lantern seemingly just as strong! (Mother Mercy, with her endless horde of coma inducing mercies and gravitational powers...They grow em strong in the 2261)

I had completely forgotten about Mother Mercy.

Did anyone read the latest Legion of Super Heroes? We finally find out how Mogo was "born".

I'm not liking that they're clearly stating that John had no other option but to kill Mogo (in GLC and aftermath). I like it being more of agrey area, where we get to make our own decision based on what we've read.

I haven't read Blackest Night or Brightest Day and I don't intend to, but how was Mogo a deux ex machina? All they had to do was just have him appear rarely like Moore intended. Also, F Johns for once again wasting John Stewart. He has sucked the life out of his character during his run. Every time Stewart (or Gardner for that matter) does something wrong they get full responsibility for it but when it's Rayner or Jordan it's either ignored or blamed on brainwashing. COME ON. Mogo was cool too.

Mogo sucked all the Black lanterns on OA into his core.

I'm guessing that happened during Brightest Day or Blackest Night but I don't get how that makes Mogo a deus ex machina. I mean, Mogo isn't supposed to socialize much (according to the story he first appeared in) so when he appears it should be a big deal.

It was during Blackest Night. He's so powerful that he can be a go to solution for problems. If you saw the Emerald Knights animated it showcased it again.

I agree, Mogo is a Deus ex machina. I guess that's one reason he was never shown in GL Volume 2, even though that's when he was first introduced. Even though he's a very old character, he only started being showcased heavily during the Kyle era in the 90's. And most of his personality and powers come from the last GLC series.

Mogo IS not that old. He first appeared in 1985.

Okay, that's not quite as old as I thought, but that's still quite old and he was still quite unused until the Kyle era and especially in the more recent GLC books. With all the attention he's gotten recently you'd think he was used as much as Kilowog or Salaak. Not so.
