  • Hi all, a newbie to the boards and GL. Bit of advice

Hey everyone, Lefty here. Im new to these boards an GL in general.

Iv seen a lot of posts regarding where to start an what to read first an i'v already ordered the Green Lantern omnibus 1 + 2. i am thinking about starting to read from i believe volume 3 an Emerald Dawn then onto Emerald Dawn 2. My main question i guess is what is the reading order for volume 3? Does it start wit Emerald Dawn an what comes next?

I see a timemine from Rebirth onward but after lookin online i think for me startin at volume 3 is good. what do you guys think? An thanks in advance!!

Yes, it came just before series three and retold Hal's origin. It was the origin for that continuity but not anymore.

If your goal is to read all (Silver Age and later) GL comics, then I'd say sure, just start at the beginning, with the issues included in the Omnibuses (and Archives, and Chronicles, and Showcases, depending on what format you prefer- though at this point some of the issues are ONLY reprinted in Showcase form), and go forward.

If you are looking to read to get caught up to what's going on now, you don't really need to go back that far, as most of that has been rendered irrelevant (if not outright erased from canon). Arguably, just going back to #1 of the current series would be sufficient, but most would say to go back as far as Rebirth, at the beginning of the LAST series.

Current GL is kind of a strange animal, as it draws heavily on stuff that happened before the current run, yet feels free to change, ignore, or reframe that stuff as the author sees fit for the story at hand, so you can't really RELY on anything you read PRIOR to the latest #1 issue still being 100% accurate and relevant to the story going forward. (And if Geoff Johns is true to form, you won't even be able to COMPLETELY rely on issues LATER than the last #1 issue to be accurate representations of the title's current continuity for long.)
