I just recently discovered this place and it felt like a good place to be! My name's Tom; I'm an older fan of GL, at age 57. The first comic book I ever read was Green Lantern #4 which I picked up for a dime off the spinner rack at Carlino's Drug Store in my home town of Raritan, NJ. I've been hooked ever since. The character of Green Lantern has a lot of appeal for me. I think he's someone we can all identify with, moreso than other heroes. You don't have to be an alien, or an orphan, or a billionaire, or be irradiated to be a Green Lantern. You just have to be the Right Guy. Fearless (or, as they have it now, capable of overcoming your fear.) Pure of heart. Growing up a nerdy kid, I used to think about what it would be like to be that Right Guy. It didn't seem to be completely impossible to my eight-year-old self that someday anything might be possible.
Anyway, I've stuck with the character ever since. Through bad art, bad writing, Parallax, the Spectre, all of it. Nothing could take away the magic of that first read, of the brave test pilot who was found worthy to join the greatest force for good in the Universe. And so far, nothing ever has.
