An alien "offer"

Ok this was a debate I had with some friends. Here it goes:

One day, you´re minding your business, when all of a sudden an alien comes to you with an offer. Become a galatic hero (think Green Lantern here). You will be trained by some of the best fighters in the Universe, learn dozens of diferent fighting styles and weapons, etc, etc. You will be given the chance to carve your legacy of good in the Stars, worlds will know your name and admire you for your actions.

The bad side of the deal? You won´t be able to return to Earth. Never, period. You will leave all your friends, lovers and family on our little blue planet. Plus, this is a risky job offer. There´s some chance you might go down fighting some evil force somewere in this universe. So what will you choose?

Hmm...I'd ask for a demonstration of what I would be getting. Like a tour video. lol I'd ask to say goodbye to a few people, then I'd ask about the women...then if everything looked well, I'd accept.

Sorry, but I'm not leaving my family unless I was 100% convinced that, through some implausible circumstance, I was the ONLY person that could save their lives, and ONLY by taking this offer. That would take a heck of a lot of convincing, let me tell you.

I´d honestly take it, no second though. There´s a good chance that when Mankind goes to the stars, your name and legacy will be there for them to see. As for the dying part? Well...be a hero, leave a legacy, leave a damm big crater when they finally take me out.

i'd do it in a heart beat...

even if the offer was there without the clause never to return to earth...

baically i feel that this planet doesn't deserve saving... especially not at this point... if there's an oppertunity to get out there and see what else the universe has to offer, i'm taking that option...

Of course. Any chance to leave this shit hole planet(the people, not that the planet itself actually sucks) I'd be glad to do so. Especially for reasons greater than anything I could do sitting on my ass around here. I've got nothing holdng me back. Except reality...

if I was the only one with this gift then I might say no because loneliness can suck, but if there is a whole corps out there, a second family then i would probably do it.

If offered the chance, I would sign up on the condition that I got 24 hours to say goodbye to everyone.

It's a chance to further man's understanding of the stars. It's a chance to see what's truly out there. And if the galaxy is as dangerous as they say, and there needs to be a police force to protect it, then I want to make sure Earth is protected too.
