    • I'm curious, is the descriptor "Welsh" actually necessary? Are there OTHER kinds of Corgis? I've only ever heard of the one.

I mean, something like Labrador Retriever I can understand, since there are obviously other retrievers, but unless there are non-Welsh Corgis it seems a little superfluous.

Yup, there are two corgi breeds: the pembroke Welsh and the Cardigan. The latter is not as cute or cuddly, they have a stronger built body and longer legs.

How do you feel about the fluffy ones?

But Wikipedia says those are BOTH Welsh Corgis, Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Seems like they could drop the Welsh part and have less of a mouthful.

But what do I know. I have a dog of a made-up "breed" anyway. (Though I love the name Puggle. )

Yeah, that's definitely not as cute.

                • So, if Corgis are Welsh, from now on I'm going to imagine their inner voice like Richard Burton . . . "yes, Martha."

Whatever they are, they are adorable. Doom will allow them into the corgi compound when the zombie apocalypse hits.

If they drop the Welsh, then what will the Welsh be remembered for? Hahaha

The only thing I could come up with was Welsh's Grape Jelly. HAHA

It's actually also a Welsh Pembroke, the fluffiness is a recessive trait. Apparently they're rarer because from a breeding perspective the fluffy trait is considered to be a defect (there's no health complications or anything associated with it, it's just not in line with the "breed standard") so breeders actively try and prevent it from happening.
