Well, obviously I should let the man speak for himself (now that I've done the opposite). When last it came up the comment was that Batgirl is a ridiculous concept because no girl could realistically take down any guy.

But probably not the way that they usually show them fighting in comics, which seems to be pretty much punching and kicking them in the head, chest, or gut. I would think that you would have to fight a bit "dirtier" than that to compensate for your opponent's size advantage, which I guess wouldn't look so heroic.
I suspect that realistically even the biggest, strongest, best-trained heroes (think Batman) can't really perform the feats that they are regularly shown doing. I mean, is it really all that much more unrealistic for a 99 pound woman, trained in martial arts, to take down a street thug, than it is for Batman to take down 15 ninjas attacking simultaneously? And when it comes down to it, is it really all THAT much more unrealistic for Batgirl or Batwoman to take on those 15 ninjas than Batman? I mean beyond a certain point, absurd is just absurd, no matter who the protagonist is.
It just strikes me as odd to have no problem with most of the stuff Batman does, but somehow any woman taking down a man in a fight is where one's suspension of disbelief cries foul?Last edited by Mister Ed; 10-01-2013, 09:08 PM.

What people typically miss in terms of strategic fighting is that it's as much about displacing your opponents power as it is following through with power of your own. Which you can do being the smaller opponent. Though it's a martial arts flick and shouldn't be seen as "realistic", watch Ip Man 2, the climax fight scene proves this perfectly. You certainly can't be out of shape or untrained, but then again when we're talking about the Batwoman and other super-heroines of the world, we're talking about women in shape. And in the case of Batwoman, trained in not only martial arts but heavy military training as well.
I wasn't using it as an argument for a woman being able to beat up a man, I was using it to defend the idea of women's wrestling. A quality product has been put together before, so it can be done. It's just not done all that often.Originally posted by Tazer View Post
