WWE is in great shape these days, at least in terms of its roster. All 3 brands have great talent. We are living in a world where Kevin Steen and AJ Styles are your WWE champs! That's awesome. And before that? It was Jon Moxley and Prince Devitt! We're getting Dean Ambrose vs John Cena vs AJ Styles at a random October PPV. That's a Mania level match. Sure RAW struggles to fill 3 hours every week, but the matches are still entertaining. Its the angles/segments that drag the show down and I expect a lot less of that when they start bringing in the Cruiserweights.

I don't know what the stories are now, because I haven't watched in forever, but one of the things that blew me out were the constantly rehashed stories of trying to win the company back from an evil general manager. I'm not too interested in the 'fight for control of the company' angle. At least not anymore. That seems to have emerged in WCW with the NWO, and it just kept happening in every major promotion. I kind of preferred it when wrestling was about guys going after prestigious championships. Of course I expect some wacky plots in wrestling, but I just got really tired of that particular angle.
If Raw is a three hour show right now, I think they should cut that down. I think another core problem with wrestling (along with the lack of competition) is that there's just too much of it and it's ALWAYS going on, so the writers/bookers/whatever are often struggling with keeping things interesting, and in so doing, they frequently do things that may marginally aid them in the short term, but hurt them bad in the long term, like seriously devaluing their championships by having a series of weak reigns and giving the belts to just about anyone.
This generally applies to superhero comics from Marvel and DC, too. Another form of serialized entertainment that, in many cases, is ALWAYS going on.Last edited by Star-Lantern; 09-17-2016, 12:16 PM.Comment

I think Vince is much more involved in Raw than in Smackdown. That's why SD ends to be better, even though it's supposed to be the B show. When Paul Heyman was running SD, it was much better than Raw.

Vince didn't give two shits about whether Smackdown put on a good quality show, just that it made money and didn't embarrass itself in the ratings. This time around, RAW and Smackdown share writers. Not head writers but a lot of the staff work on both shows. The shows still travel together unlike before when they were truly separate entities. I wish Triple H and Ryan Ward had the freedom they had with NXT because that Smackdown roster could be the greatest show ever.
If we had a draft of the entire WWE roster on this board, I guarantee a lot of the rosters would look similar. So I'll take this time to applaud Raw for having a roster that many shit on initially and that they still make a majority of that 3 hrs pretty good.Comment
