That's a huge one. Though honestly I'm amazed he was still alive. 94 is a hell of a run. Good for him.

Poitier is the second cast member of the original version of The Defiant Ones to die within the past couple of weeks. The other was Cara Williams. I highly recommend the movie.

Kevin Coughlin, who plays Williams's son, was killed by a hit-and-run driver in 1976 and the case remains unsolved.

The movie also has the final screen appearance of Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer before he was shot to death under controversial circumstances.

I really like both versions of the Defiant Ones. At least the 2 I remember. I suppose they could have made a 3rd or 4th version I dont know about.

I'm not a huge fan of Tony Curtis but he was very good in it.

Lon Chaney Jr. has a good role in it, as does the always reliable Claude Akins.

Marilyn Bergman, winner of multiple Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and more for her song lyrics, has died at 93. She passed at home in Los Angeles at 1:15 AM PT Saturday morning with husband Alan Bergman and daughter Julie Bergman at her side. The cause of death was respiratory failure (non-COVID related).

Bergman was a multi-award-winning lyricist with three Academy Awards, four Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and one Cable Ace Award, among others.

In collaboration with her husband, Alan, Marilyn won Oscars for the songs “The Windmills of Your Mind,” “The Way We Were” and for the score for Yentl. Since their first Oscar nomination in 1968, the Bergmans have been nominated 16 times- for such songs as “It Might Be You” from Totosie, “How Do You Keep The Music Playing?” from Best Friends, “Papa Can You Hear Me?” and “The Way He Makes Me Feel” from Yentl, and “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?” from The Happy Ending.

Dwayne Hickman has died at 87. I've been watching Dobie Gillis online, and it's a great sitcom, years ahead of its time. The Big Bang Theory is garbage by comparison.

                https://www.npr.org/2022/01/09/10716...has-died-at-77

Michael Lang, co-creator of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, died on Saturday at the age of 77.

Lang died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. According to family spokesperson Michael Pagnotta, the cause of death was a rare form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Lang, along with partners Artie Kornfeld, Joel Rosenman and John P. Roberts, planned the famous 1969 festival on Max Yasgur's sprawling dairy farm in Bethel, N.Y. For four days, more than 400,000 attendees were treated to performances by artists including the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix and The Who.

                    https://www.tmz.com/2022/01/09/bob-s...an-full-house/

Bob Saget has died at the age of 65 ... TMZ has learned.

Multiple sources connected to the iconic comedian and actor -- most famous for his starring role as Danny Tanner in 'Full House' -- tell us he passed away Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando.

The Sheriff's Department and the fire department responded to the hotel around 4 PM ET ... after hotel security had found Bob in his room. We're told he was pronounced dead on the scene, but the circumstances of his death are still unclear.

RIP!!! Dirty Work with him and Norm McDonald sounds far more tragic now.

I'm surprised that the article about Dwayne Hickman didn't mention his actor brother Darryl, who unlike Dwayne was known for dramatic roles and voiceover work. He's still alive at 90.

                          https://pitchfork.com/news/james-mtu...an-dies-at-75/

James Mtume, a musician who recorded with jazz greats before leading the R&B group Mtume, has died. His son Faulu Mtume confirmed the news to Pitchfork. He was 75.

Mtume was born James Heath Jr., the son of jazz saxophonist Jimmy Heath, in Philadelphia. He was raised by his mother Bertha Forman and pianist James “Hen Gates” Forman, who played in Charlie Parker’s band. Forman introduced the young Mtume, literally, to some of the greatest jazz musicians of all time.

“Just imagine, you’re nine, ten years old and there’s Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins,” Mtume told Red Bull Music Academy in 2014. “I never was hip enough to know just how brilliant a situation that was, but what I did know about jazz musicians were they were an extraordinary group. Witty, funny. There was nothing like sitting around a table of jazz musicians.” In the late 1960s Mtume joined the US Organization, a Black empowerment collective that created Kwanzaa.

Not much of a memorial, but you do what you do.

                            https://www.cbsnews.com/news/robert-...nkId=147573974

Robert Durst, the New York City real estate heir who was convicted of murdering his friend Susan Berman, has died in prison, his attorney confirmed to CBS News. He was 78.

His attorney, Chip Lewis, said the death was believed to be due to "natural causes associated with the litany of medical issues we had repeatedly reported to the court over the last couple of years."

Durst was convicted in September and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in October. Durst was believed to have killed Berman at her Los Angeles-area home in 2000 to prevent her from incriminating him in the 1982 disappearance of his wife, Kathie. After decades as an unsolved case, Durst was just charged with his wife's murder in October.

Robert Durst spent so little time locked up that I have to say he pretty much got away with it.
