Where were you during the events of Sept. 11, 2001?

At the time, I was in San Jose, CA getting ready for work. I actually woke up late for work that day, so I was rushing to get out of the house. Usually, I'll have the TV on when I get ready for work and watch/listen to the local news.

I hurrying out of the house and getting into my car. I turned on the radio expecting to hear the local taking heads. Instead I heard unfamaliar voices describing some type of chaos. I thought it was some type of prank as this particular radio station often does during its morning show. I was annoyed, so I listened to my CD.

I did not know about the attack on the World Trade Centers until I got into my office building and walked into the cafe where dozens of people were standing in front of the TVs hanging from the ceilings. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. At first, no one knew it was a terrorist attack. Many thought it was a horrible accident; that an airplane just went off course. And then the second plane hit the other tower. It was horrifying. I was shocked and could not believe it.

I remember our office allowed the employees to go home because of the event.

I was working in a hospital area at the time, and was gifted with more downtime than I knew what to do with. As such I spent more time than I probably should have surfing the web. Live Journal was a quasi-new thing at the time, and I was refreshing my Flist page when the newest entry was from a friend of mine:

A plane hit the world trade center.

In disbelief, I went to CNN.com, but the page wouldn't load. I went to FoxNews, and that page didn't load. In fact, every news page I went to wouldn't load. It didn't

It never occurred to me to turn on a radio.

I very vividly remember going to the only open space in the hospital to watch the televisions: the pediatric department's entertainment area. That's where I was when the first tower fell.

Then someone came through the building and started shutting off all the extraneous lights. We'd just gone into code triage. Boston was preparing to take the overflow patients from New York. Only there weren't any.

I was attending a work conference at the Santa Clara convention center. I too thought it was a prank when I turned on the local station (wild 94.9). When I walked into the lobby, I remember seeing a throng of humanity huddled around the televisions watching the planes crash into the towers. It was surreal.

The conference went on as scheduled, but when we arrived at work later that afternoon, we noticed that everyone had gone home for the day. Our boss, being the jackass he is, tried to keep us at work. Our building administrator saw us and told us to go home to his dismay.

Later in the day, the media coverage was smothering us with reports and a million and one different angles of the planes hitting the towers in addition to people jumping from windows to escape the fire. Twas a very dark day.

sophmore in hs and i was in science or history class when another teacher came in and said the wtc was hit.


i'll always remember the student behind me saying this is just like one of those terrorist movies.


another thing i remember is we had one arabic student that basicly laughed at the situation and the whole school beat the shit out of him

i was still a sleep when the 1st plane hit, my mom came running in and got me up by telling me what happened........... as we turned on the tv the 2nd plane hit, i'll never forget that day, EVER

I was in 8th grade and I was sitting in Mrs Weavers Home Ec class. Another teacher, Mrs Star, came in and told us the news about the twin towers and the pentagon.

Was walking into tenth grade biology. Teacher had the TV in the ceiling corner turned to one of the news outlets (probably Fox, can't recall), and was sitting on a table watching the first plane hit again and again.

When everyone finished coming in and we really grasped what was going on, it just didn't seem real. Planes, flying into buildings, in New York City.

The teacher shut the TV off a few minutes later and forced through the day's lesson. After school, I kept getting more info, about how the Pentagon had also been attacked and a plane had gone down in PA. Couldn't believe it was actually happening.

I was a senior in college. I was trying to get online and wondering why it didn't work. I think my mother called to tell me. I went to school and saw plane 2 hit from the student center TVs.

I remember all the theories and talk that day. Classes were cancelled after noon but my Roman History class was just us talking about the news and about terrorism.

I'm in NJ. I didn't know anyone personally affected, but a lot of people I knew had family or friends in the towers. My stepdad works for DOT and they called everyone in to help with traffic and such in the north. He could see the smoke from there.

yea i didnt know about the pentagon until i turned on the tv at home after school.

I was a sophomore in High School. I was in art class class when the the principal came on the intercom and said there was some sort of crash, but the information wasn't 100% accurate. Teachers more or less tried to stick to their lesson plans. It was a distraction more then anything else. It wasn't until I had a study hall that a teacher put the class TV on Fox News or something. The whole room gasped when the first tower fell... After that the rest of the day was mostly a blur. I was completely dumbstruck by the whole thing. At first, I had no clue what to even think about this whole horrific event.

Once I got home, I had to tell my mother(who had just woken up to this)what had happened. In addition to being upset over the tragedy, she was quite upset that she had slept through it all. Which is something I don't know if I will ever understand.

I was off work that day with my wife to move her furniture in to our apartment. I was messing with an antique TV that I have. It doesn't show and picture but the sound works and the first thing I hear come out of it is that America is under attack. With it being such an old TV I thought it was something out of WWII. I turned on our real TV and that's when we found out what was going on.

I remember be awakened by someone watching tv, I thought they were watching some kind of Steven Seagal movie at first, then I focused in and realized that it was CNN and this was really happening. Changed my day completely, it was my brother's birthday and we were going to play some shinny and party that night...
