The CW Announces An Early Renewal: Smallville Season Eight Is A Go
The CW Network has announced the news that many of us have hoped for - there will be an eighth season of Smallville. The show was renewed alongside several other CW favorites.

Here is the official press release:

THE CW ANNOUNCES EARLY PICKUPS OF SERIES
"Gossip Girl," "One Tree Hill," "Smallville,"
    "Supernatural," "Everybody Hates Chris" And
"America's Next Top Model" To Return Next Season

March 03, 2008 (Burbank, California) - The CW announced early pickups of six series today, including the network's signature reality hit, AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, four dramas and one comedy. All six series will return for the fall season.

The network's most popular series, AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL will return with mega-star Tyra Banks for cycles 11 and 12. Returning dramas include the buzz-worthy freshman hit GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL, returning for a sixth season. These three series are the top-ranked shows on television with a concentration of women 18-34 viewers.

Also renewed were the long-running Thursday night team of SMALLVILLE, which will begin its eighth season, and SUPERNATURAL, which will begin its fourth season. In addition, the critically acclaimed comedy EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS will return for season four.

I'm not surprised, given what I've heard about the shows ratings and demographics (compared to other CW shows, anyway). However, it remains to be seen if they can pull it off, with the actor that plays Lex Luthor reportedly uninterested in signing on for season 8 (and several other actors not signed yet, either).

Those are the other two that definitely aren't contracted yet. However, aside from Clark and Lionel Luthor, NONE of the other characters' actors are confirmed as signed yet, last I heard.

Well, the guy that plays Green Arrow has a talent holding contract with CW. So who knows? Maybe his emerald friend will pop by.

That show is so badly written. I am barely hanging on to it with any interest. The last two episodes that were on, the Black Canary one and I think another after it - I ignored.

The dialogue is hideous, not to mention the continuity just sucks really bad!

And with continuity I don't mean like the Trekkie nerds who complain, "In episode 5 Kirk has a gun in his left hand, but in 6 he uses his right..."

On Smallville, the people who were enemies are friends and vice versa over the minutest of plot points. It is just a wretched show.

I think it's time for Smallvile to finally die. It has been a slow death for years, but we all saw it soming. But at least it did bring Zod back into continuity, in some form or another. I always thought Superman needed a much better opposite than Bizarro, kinda like his own Black Adam or something running around causing trouble.

Guy as a rival football player sounded good.

I wish we could see Batman but it won't happen anytime soon.

They said time and time again Bruce Wayne would not be on.

Guys, listen, I see everyone saying "Let's see Hal Jordan" but let me take the boldest and most obnoxious stand...

I have to say no to Hal Jordan on "Smallville" and here is why. The show does not deserve him and if they do use him, they will $#@ over.

I just assume spare him from being used as a rating's stunt.

Heck, if the Batman used him so poorly (I WILL NOT THE LET THE PENGUIN HAVING THE RING ISSUE DIE, DARN IT!) I know Smallville writers, who have a track record of mediocre writing not touch him at all!
