  • Machine Wars Bracket 1: Megatron (V) Vs. Galvatron

    Vs.

Yes, they are technically the "same Transformer", but their personalities and stories are different enough to warrant this. Plus, over the years they've been separated enough to have become two different entities. Even in G1 they co-existed and were basically two different Decepticons.

    Setting: Cybertron

Stipulations: Submission battle. One has to admit the other is superior. K.Os and Deaths would mean re-starting the battle with both at equal power.

Easily Megatron. Galvatron sucks and like Rodimus Prime, was a terrible leader. The only good thing about Galvatron was the Transformers Movie.

Galvatron was better in the G1 comics than he was in the cartoon though. His story was different too, it followed the Movie point where he was Megatron transformed by Unicron into Galvatron, but Unicron and Galvatron actually defeated the Autobots and Galvatron went to Earth and basically wiped out North America and most of the people/Transformers there (in the future). He was then brought back to the past/alternate timeline by a different Unicron (the main timeline) to help defeat the Autobots, but Galvatron was pissed at Unicron for being used as a pawn and ended up helping the rest of the Transformers defeat him.

Later, along with Shockwave, Starscream and Megatron, Galvatron ended up on Earth when they fled Cybertron thinking it was going to blow up.

He had a lot more character in the comics, and at one point was going to destroy Megatron whom he blamed for his bouts of madness.

      Still, I prefer Megatron.

I never liked the idea of Megatron "evolving" into Galvatron. Always should have been a separate 'Con in my opinion.

In the context of the original movie and comic story I pointed out, it made some sense. Unicron wanted a solider to fight for him, and Megatron was his best option, just not with Megatrons personality.

Later cartoons made it stupid though, like in Armada, Energon and Cybertron, where exactly what you said happens - Megatron gets a colour change and "turns into" Galvatron for no real reason.

I thought that they were the same Transformer...

            ...Eh, whatever. Megatron FTW.

In the movie and cartoon series, they are. In the comics, Galvatron is Megatron from an alternate time-line, who get's placed into the "main" timeline where Megatron is still Megatron. So they're pretty much the same guy, but not quite.

So, just to ask a question, have they ever accurately described why Megatron could fly in the pilot, but afterwords did not have the ability?

As I recall, he flew many times after the pilot. But no...they never mentioned it. I'm guessing it's because he's The Goddamn Megatron, and he does what he wants! You don't know him!

That's just always something that bugged me. If he could fly, then why would he need to transform? Especially if it's just into a gun? (And that's not getting into the Megatron/Soundwave/AstroTrain "how do they change their size and mass?" question)

Well...he was the most powerful Gun there was, but no one could aim him properly. That's why Galvatron just ignored the whole "needs to be shot by another Transformer" and turned into a Cannon he could aim himself.

As far as the size changing thing...I just assume their "cells" expand or contract, or fold into each other (like a paper cube becoming flat) depending on their alt-form.

It doesn't make sense...but it was the 80's, and everyone was high on coke, so it didn't matter.

Edit: And there's this, if you care.
